15/2/13 – Did Someone Say “Fish?”

15/02/201333

OK let’s see….. Friday (tick) ….. Warm (tick) …..Flat and glassy (tick) …. Clear (tick)….ย There’s no other way to break the news… this was NOT a good day to sleep in … it was a 9/10….

Here’s LSA and Jalna heading off for the Boulderdash – Without John S, who got a better offer apparently!

It was fairly quiet at 6:50 and then BAM… instant crowd….

Still plenty of weed on the beach. That special feeling as it squelches between your toes..mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm …smells good too….

Low tide swim out this morning to the point in 22.4c water…

Helping some with their shyness issues…

The water was CLEAR…

Uhhh Sarah… you’ve got a little air booger there…

The swim was flat and peaceful… just don’t hit your head on the peaceful boat….

Shelley was serene….

Ok here’s one of the best collections of sealife I’ve seen in one single day…. If you didn’t swim today this is what you missed out on…

A nice Flathead lying just feet from our feet…

The famous Numbfish… is now looking for an agent…

Here’s a video of him from Stephen Coulter:ย http://youtu.be/K2a9HS621Is

Just big schools of fish everywhere this morning…

Everyone loves a Grouper..

We hung around the point for a bit on the way back…

Lastly… a little message for James..

Stats:

Swimmers: 126

Boulderdashers: 12

Newbies: 9

Water temp: 22.4

– Last 10k chance – Sat 23rd Feb (Next week) – See John Bond for details or speak to him during the week –

****************************

Also… there’s been some complaints from the public about access through the area we collect on busy days like weekends. So it wuld be great if everyone could just watch we’re not blocking the thoroughfare or leaving our bags or gear in places where someone could take exception. Thanks in advance everyone ๐Ÿ™‚

****************************

See you down there for the second last 6k of the summer!

what an amazing blog, such a collection of fish!
anyone not doing the long swim tomorrow? I am hoping to take some pics around at shelley after the swim tomorrow, so far Jalna has volunteered. all you have o do is wear a dress or an old nightie in the water. My photos to date have been rubbish, so anyone who feels like snapping with me is very welcome. I’ll probably snap some pics at shelley, try and be quick so any volunteers can swim back to manly.

I sent Stephen’s numbfish video and the blog pics to Mark and Amanda at the OzMus. Mark says:
    “Nice numbfish movie!
The pink juveniles are amazing. We had a bit of a look and canโ€™t be sure of what they are. We suspect that the pink is a touch blown out (see mado shots). They could be pinkish yellowtail or possibly a juvenile bonnetmouth.
    Cheers, Mark”.

Jane, I found a cute little frog in my lettuce (from the vegie man), where can I go to get information on where I should let him go, and what I can feed him until I find him a permanent home? We are trying to catch bugs for him , but we are not very good at it.

I’m no frog expert Inez, but he will live in just a tiny pond in your garden if you have space. Fill a widish bowl or basin with water and try and find some duckweed to put in it. It will spread over the top of the water and make a nice private pool for the frog. Put a big stone in for him to sit on, or make a ledge. It’s amazing how quickly other frogs will find him (?) and soon you’ll have night serenades, frogspawn and tadpoles!
Meanwhile I will find out who the OzMus amphibian experts are. If you send me a photo they will ID the species too.

    Great blog!!!!!
Ahah – I see you have been impersonating again Nips. Poor HKTQ. You should stop picking on her.
Yes, Im sure the fish were yellow tail with a pink sunrise twinge. Im sure Stephen has adjusted his camera back. Those fish are starting to look like little jellyfish

Jane I think I took those ones – the red is sunlight .. it’s a bit brighter from balancing the colours but nothing’s been added. I’ve got a bunch more untouched ones that look the same..

Unfortunately we have two proficient hunting felines in residence so I would like to take him somewhere safer. How can I send you a picture? Maybe Nick can give you my email address so you can send me your address

Little Sarah, Shaun DWSS or Storchy are impersonating you again, I know you and Jalna would have done the full Boldercrawl. These impersonators are terrible people aren’t they? ๐Ÿ˜‰

HKTQ, I see you ticked the bolder but only did a little pipe swim. OHH PLEASE!!!
    AND you Lainey Loo –

Great clear fish pics. We don’t get too many of the numbfish.
The pic of the boat near Shelly reminds me of the movie ‘Dead Calm’
Conditions are looking good for the 6k tomorrow. It will be a good training run for those doing the 10k on 23 Feb.

If anyone not doing the 6km swim tomorrow would like to pose for some photos at shelley wearing dresses underwater, please give me a shout. Jalna has volunteered to be a model, and anyone who takes half decent underwater photos would also be very welcome.

Oh, Little Sarah, you’re just too modest for words! I know you always pick the bolderdashes with the gale force winds and big surf and would never cut it short!
Looking forward to our 6k tomorrow and 10K next week!!

I have some slightly embarassing photos which I have resisted publishing. Rainer’s appointed HKTQ as my Mentor and she’s helping me put a value on this service.

Don’t worry about Jon – he was in bed!
Pay up grovelling, crocodile tears, Storcho! Better offer indeed!
There was poor Nurse J worrying about your parking difficulties too….
