Calm seas, fluffy clouds and a gentle balmy breeze greeted
the 95 B&B’ers this morning.

That,
however, is not why it was Loch Manly.
The water was an interesting shade of brown. . . . so do not expect any
underwater shots. There was no odour, no floating weed – just a shade of brown that you find in lakes.
The weather is so great that there were four new
swimmers! Izzy as part of the welcoming
committee made sure this first timer felt loved.

The water may be warm but there is always the shock of
getting wet. . .

Very comforting knowing that there is always someone willing to provide a protective hand.

A gentle roll at the point as we set off into the sun’s beams – magic don’t you think?

It really was rather weird swimming with almost zero visability. A common theme of conversation as we gathered at Shelly.

Steve shook his camera into action and took these beautiful photos of the Shelly stop.

Ian has a theory as to why it is brown. He proffers that the flooding in the Hawkesbury River area, combined with the release of water from Warragamba Dam has flowed down the coast and settled into the bays along the way! Very reasonable when you look at the colour! Additional theories welcome.

Summer badges
Now that the Summer badges have been decided, the
spreadsheets have been updated with the total list of all the people who have
completed both the 6 and 10km badges this season (43 for the 10km
and 107 for the 6km) and they have been uploaded on the website: http://www.boldandbeautifulmanly.com.au/swimming-badges.html.
If you have completed one of these swims to check the
spreadsheets to make sure your name is on the list. This opportunity will only
be available for a short time (until Friday).
For the diary . . .
Tonight is the Bluewater
dinner and then every 1st Tuesday of the month. Great
value at just $20 for two courses and $5 drinks. To register your attendance, follow

Staying safe
NEW water safety tips!!! Michael’s tips remain valid but this updated guide is courtesy of champion Ironman Craig ‘Riddo’
Riddington. He has put this RIP/ Surf
swim education document together for the B&B and it’s a good read. To read and even download click here.
Thank you to Mark Seeto and Stephen Coulter for additional photos.
Catch you in the water.

Great. Comments section still works. Almost 1pm and complete silence. That’s a record!
Great blog Mary. Love the headline! It really did feel eerie this morning with the brown water. I immediately assumed there was a major incident at the treatment plant at North Head. But consensus was that the discoloration was a natural phenomenon and the water fit for swimming. Famous last words.
Let’s all check ourselves for skin irritations, ear infections, and erratic bowel movement over the next few days and report back here on the blog.

Thanks Lips. Did you notice that the water was less salty? That is why I think that Ian’s theory is on the money. Was going to say ‘holds water’ but that would be a terrible pun.
Can report that nothing untoward has revealed itself yet – no strange growths, rashes or irritations. Also both legs and arms remain where they should.

It was dam and river overflow not affluent effluent according to SC! Great blog again Mary and nice to see blog student Dr John by your side! Little Sarah was a bit distressed that she forgot to swim back with you Lips!

Yep I noticed less salty too and it smelt a hint of dirt…
So yes could be the rivers! Or plankton/algae..
either way it was freakin eerie!!! Well done to newbies who swam through it – if that had been my first time swimming i would have fainted!
Love the sun through the clouds pictures Mary!!!

You lot are not selling the swim, well the water today!!!

Your last paragraph is disconcerting.

Can we please officially recommence the bolderdash again through winter?
Possibly 6.30am to coincide with the completion of the regular Shelley swim…….
Does anyone know whom am I best to put this too to receive official stamp of approval?
Anyone else interested in this proposition?

You can put it to me on behalf of The Management, Storcho….as you know, I’m on the Board now I have the 10k and am leaving poor Shauny for dead….
Let’s see…. if you’re willing to swim by my side on a bolderdash any day of the year, I’ll apply for an official stamp as one of my charitable duties.

Leswee or Lesbutt (seems to cover the North Head options), You may need to discuss with your Dr or drink more water if wee is that colour.

I can give you the unofficial stamp of approval, but kms don’t count for the Pacific Challenge. I’m sure if you advertise on the blog you will get some takers.
