08/03/2013 – Swimming Suffragettes

08/03/201316

Hey Ladies, today is our day. I’m sure you recognise the swimming suffragette in this photo above. No? Ok fair enough. She’s someone who apparently used to swim with us quite a lot until she got a better offer over in WA. I don’t know, something like studying medicine or some such.

Seriously. Today, if I may, I’d like to dedicate International Women’s Day to to the inspirational founder of Bold & Beautiful Swim Squad, Julie Isbill. International Women’s Day honours the work of the Suffragettes (who campaigned for women’s right to vote), celebrates women’s success, and reminds of inequities still to be redressed.

Our wonderful swim group’s lead word is inclusiveness, and it goes without saying that everyone is celebrated and welcome in our daily activity. But for one day only, indulge me as I post pics of some of our wonderful female swimmers first and foremost. (Boys, I’m sure you won’t mind?)

John K and Robin sat down with the girls to talk about women’s rights, women’s needs and women’s desires. “It was really interesting”, they both concluded.

In total we had 125 swimmers this morning, seven of them brand new. Welcome!

Think it is an entirely worthy nomination! Even if jules did escape to the other side of the country, there is definitely no forgetting her, or who is resposible for such a fabulous daily swim!!

    Great blog Anna, Thanks.
I love your concept of honouring JI, one of our swimming suffragettes, on IWD.
We are all, female (and us males), very lucky to have been born in our comparative situations.
LSA repeatedly points out the beauty of the dawn. Tomorrow, celebrate our daily activity with reflecting upon how lucky we are in the B&B with our inclusiveness, while undertaking our daily activity as the day lights up over Bower.
Anna, I admire you, thanks for highlighting today and including the images of all the beautiful women around us.
