There’s craziness in the air with the full moon last night – deciding to hang around to see us off this morning… a few cloudy heads from the soiree at Manly Wine last night. Nothing like a swim to Shelley to clear out the cobwebs on a holiday weekend. Why would you go away?
There’s a few new badges on display…
Vanessa bought her “Muppet”
Today’s fashion award – “Bruce” just come from the building site..
Kara’s first official swim… what a team
The water was great – 22.4c – Note the full moon still going strong here in the second pic.. and all the crazy people underneath it…
These are pretty typical scenes at the point this week…
The swim was fantastic – there was a few little surprises waiting for us in the way … no-one i spoke to this morning knew exactly what they were. They stung a bit as well, but it wasn’t as nasty as a Jimble or Bluebottle….
I was too busy navigating out of the swarm to make it all the way into Shelley so decided to get the chargers coming through on the way back… look at the form!
A few of us went out yesterday at lunchtime and Stephen got these great pics of a puffer fish about the size of a football.. plus a ball of catfish for good measure..
Today was busy.. Duskies, Old Wives, Numbfish, Diamondfish, Trevally, Grouper and the usuals… it was all happening …..
Have a great holiday weekend everyone… don’t go too crazy!

It’s been a real treat to be swimming under a full moon and a rising sun. Lovely fish pics! thanks Nick.

Impressive fish pics! You captured almost the whole variety Nick. Unfortunately you didn’t get a photo of the rarest of species on display this morning, the wetsuitless Rob. Not seen in our waters for almost a year.. Easy to spot due to his luminescent white color and usually accompanied by the equally rare wetsuitless Emer.

… but Nick did get one pic of the (less rare) luminescent long-sleeved white groper.

The jellyfish pics are amazing!
Typical conversation here in Hong Kong:
****
“What are those spots on your face?”
Me: “Oh, just jelly-fish stings from my long distance ocean swims in Australia….”
“Agh….. you swim in the sea???? Are there any sharks?””
Me: “Oh, yes, I’ve seen a few varieties……”
“Aghhhhh….x#$@…. chi sin la! (crazy!)”

Such a rare sight, I’m not sure I’ve seen it! Even more rare than my Bunny pink outfit which doesn’t meet Rob’s censors’ criteria. Maybe the same with his skinny luminescent white body:)
Hope Rob & Emer didn’t sink (as we do) when they stripped off!

Now the Triad Queen’s influence is on the wane, Henchie Jon nowhere to be seen and Lips is wallowing in his loss of leadership, we of the Integrity Police are currently investigating the swimless ticking of several prominent individuals of interest in the Pink Caps.
Can anyone please verify that ATTRACTA swam to Shelley and back today?
We know she turned up, we know she ticked, we know she even got in the water, then under cover of confusion of the purple people eaters the trail grows cold.
Can anyone verify ATTRACTA swam to Shelley?
and then can anyone verify that ATTRACTA swam back to Manly?

Sarah … I’d say just about everything we swam with would be on the menu up there? 😉

Lovely fish pics as usual Nick. The little darling in the 6th. pic from the bottom is a Bengal Sergeant, aka Abudefduf bengalensis. Related to Lips (see Nick’s blog last Sat.). I love the Numbfish, which I call a Plastic Bag Fish as it swims in a similar way.
I was stung on the face by the jellies (nasty!) but didn’t see any. They are new to me – I think they might be the Purple-streaked Jelly (Pelagia noctiluca). I’ll send the pics to Stephen Keable at the OzMus for reliable ID.

Have it your own way Leswee, but I hope they are NOT there tomorrow as I got some nasty stings on my face. My nose was so red someone said I looked as though I had a had a couple of sherries (as you do).

Thanks Jane .. I like the Bengal Sergeants.. they always swim up to you to have a look … probably the friendliest fish out there but hard to get clear in the frame cos they move quickly!
Next time I’ll get a video of the numbfish:)

Oh, T-Abs! Why not have a ‘go’ at that Storchy Rough Diamond fella instead?
He’s the expert at ‘tick-and-surf’, ‘run-to-Shelly-for-a-paddle’, ‘hugging-ladies-in-bikinis’ and ‘rescue-in-the-shallows-followed-by-triple-brekkie-to -recover’ – all in the name of not messing up those hair streaks:-))
And, I’ll have you know that at least Attracta has paid her dues, unlike some….
(Henchie Jon rather busy with eating therapy – see Nick’s note….!)
