There are lots of
great things about swimming before sunrise.
The one I particularly like is the abundance of car spots on the beach front. Yeah!! Then there is the
welcoming committee, and the opportunity to catch up with everyone.
Looks like
Greg has been practicing his photo bombing moves.
While to the
uninitiated it does sound a little mad to fling oneself into the ocean before
the sun has even thrown of its cloud laced doona, let’s face it, there is no
better way to celebrate being alive.
And the fish!!! We had a yellowtail guard of honour leaving
the point, and another as we approached Shelly. Visibility was wonderful through out the bay – if just a little shady because the sun was not quite high enough to penetrate the surface.
It was a quick turnaround at Shelly ’cause it was a bit murky with debris. But just enough to reflect upon the number of Easter eggs consumed over the weekend.
Not sure if this one
is a white groper or a great white.
The return to Manly
was punctuated with sightings of wobbegongs and a beautiful ray. The ray humoured us by gliding around so we
could take a few photos. Then in a flash
it was gone!
Very unusual jellyfish! Almost mistook it for a plastic bag. . .
Arriving back in
Manly a very excited Lesley was heading out again as a pod of
dolphins were off the point.
A positively stunning day. . . And next week we get to do it with sun!!!

Beautiful morning!!
Mary, thanks for throwing me a bone with that white groper ‘in-flight’ shot. Have to admit you did an outstanding job dodging my photo bombs this morning.
Can’t believe you didnt get a shot of Lesley picking up rubbish at Shelly. That transparent party balloon looked seriously yucky.
Great photo bombing there Greg! I can tell you’ve been practicing. We just have to work on that facial expression..

Indeed Lesley did find something unpleasant in the water! What a nasty surprise. Thankfully she did dispose of it appropriately.

Cerebral Palsy Needs Our Help – Especially if you’re Faster,
We are desperately seeking swimmers who can swim 500 meters in less than 7 minutes. But at this stage we will take anything.
Swimmers needed for Charity event – Shelly Beach Sunday April 7
About the event –
For the last 9 years Cerebral Palsy Alliance have held an annual fundraiser called the 20/twenty Challenge to raise important funds for children with cerebral palsy. Without this event some children may have to wait up to 2 years for something as basic as a wheelchair or walker, which can be truly life changing.
We would love your help as an elite swimmer for those teams who have raised $8000 to participate in the challenge.
The whole event is a 2km swim, 3km kayak and 20km hike. The swim is the area where most teams struggle so we allocate each team an “elite swimmer” to each of the team. The elite swimmers go out and swim one lap of 500 meters to get the competitive advantage for their teams and then the teams go out and swim their 2km’s each. The teams can ask their elite swimmer to swim up to 3 extra laps for them.
The 2km swim is off Shelly Beach and 4 laps around a buoy of 500 meters.
The event is this Sunday April 7 and registration is at 6:30am. ( It is an early start but for a very good cause! ) You would be finished around 8:30 and we promise to buy you breakfast! All swimmers will also be supplied with a limited edition 20/twenty beach towel and swimming cap.
If you would like to help please email kvandepeer@cerebralpalsy.org.au with your details and average time over 500 meters.

what a beautiful blog post Mary. Such a nice way to start the week, and SUCH amazing fish today. I place todays swim in my top ten ever.
I hate to admit to this but I would feel a bit deprived it i didnt get my daily lips-bomb fix.
Gotta love it.
