16/04/13 – An intimate swim for 61

16/04/201318

Stumbling out of bed
today, I grumbled at the concrete grey skies and very big rain drops.  I’m sure I wasn’t the only one because we
were a very modest 61 swimmers this morning!

By 6.50am it was
evident that it was a day for the seriously committed!

Lesely couldn’t wait to try out a
new outfit.  She says this is all the rage in the
UK this season – a terry one-suit – so keep an eye on the B&B merchandise
for new additions. . .

But the mischievous
seven only had to wait a little while before the rest of the squad turned
up.  At least we didn’t block the path!

So to the water.  At 22.8 degrees it was warm with just a occassional wave to remind us that we do swim
in the surf!!

Visibility was challenged
by the low light, but the colour was that stunning aquarium blue.  Now we did see the outline of lots of fish –
the massive school of yellow tail appeared and disappeared; Anne spotted a
flathead at Shelly before it took off so quickly that John Kelly almost leapt
out of the water.  And John spotted a
groper while I spotted John!

Shaun was the Celeb ‘Let’s
goer’ today.  Don’t you love that cheeky
dolphin-like grin?

Lovely to see Julia
today!  Have you caught her on The
Drum?

Ok, so it was a
magic, serene swim – well worth the effort!

And I learnt a valuable lesson today; don’t lick your camera lens to stop it from fogging up ’cause it just makes your photos fuzzy.

For the diary . . .

Good morning Bold and Beautiful! Sorry to hear about the grey skies and rain this morning. It was clear and glorious for our Byron Bay swim this morning 🙂
This is Dani from California. Some of you may remember me from the two weeks I swam with you in February. I had the most incredible time in Manly, made special by the people and the swims, and have decided to come back again in May.
I’m looking for accommodations in Manly from about May 3 through May 28, preferably a separate unit/flat/cottage but would consider renting a room. If you have a holiday rental or know of one, could you please let me know? If you don’t know me personally, there are several B&B’ers who can vouch for me 🙂 My email is danioz@earthlink.net. Incase that gets blocked on the post, you can also get it from Lesley Coulter.
Looking forward to seeing you all in the water in May!
    Cheers,
    Dani

Haha – love the foggy almost romantic look to the photos Mary!
Good on you for turning up in a rather soggy morning.
Dolphin Whisperer – how did you shout the ‘Let’s Go?’ Ddi you use a basic dolphin call ?

It was well worth getting up for! A few of us saw a beautiful lion fish this morning!!!Simon thought he was being protected by groupers hovering around. It was near the tall, straight palm tree but no-one had a camera! Lovely blog Mary!

    Snorks
I swam but somehow didn’t get in any photos or get my tick accredited.
DWSS shouted and I felt a tingle go through me!
I thought dolphins were nearby and it was very sensual!!
    Great blog Mary, thanks.

Mary, thanks for highlighting Lesley’s new outfit – a wonderful addition to the fashion week inaugurated on Sunday.
Lesley: you might be interested in a range of animal “onesies” that my daughter tells me is available in Sydney. I hope to see you in something like this in the near future:

    Hey Lips and Snorks,
Yes I did talk in dolphin language (learnt from countless hours studying the TV show Flipper in the 70’s)
and you were right Lips – spot on.
So cool speaking a language that no one understands, I called the dolphins in to get a bit cosy with the botox boy. “White top flipper, white top,he wants some loving”
Just looking for a photo oportuntity for you my puckering friend.
If it came off, I think you would have made the international news.
All for a good cause and get some photo oportunity shots for the family photo album.

    Thanks Mary!
I’m sure my fans will have noticed the wrong colour / pattern box next to the fake comments.
Remember: Lips – only real with the light blue box and crazy space pattern which has the quarter circle in its top right corner!
    See you all tomorrow!
