Is there life before coffee? That’s this week’s deeply philosophical question. James pictured above shows proof of life, and some. And below, scientific evidence that more than four double shots preswim can indeed be reckless. Eh, Ian?
To be fair, this swim group probably doesn’t accurately reflect the 7am winter morning state of the average section of the Australian population.
So far I can only conclude that the answer is a resounding YES (there is life before coffee), but of course there’s always a minority that prove any theory wrong. These three early swimmers have not yet had their caffeine fix, and consequently are but mere ghosts of their true selves.
I contend that the key to full enjoyment of your post swim coffee is to do the actual swim that we ostensibly came here to do. Lock it in Eddie.
“Nooo, get lost with that camera, I’ve been on the blog enough”, said Sarah B, and with the help of some finger signals underlined her poignant message. Steady on Sarah, this is supposed to be a family friendly blog.
At Shelly Beach, a birthday party was in full swing. The beautiful Stacey turns 14 today. Congratulations, luv!
Party’s over, time to leave Shelly. No-one was smashed but some got splashed.
The marine life section of today’s blog contains only mermaids, but they are two very fine ones. Nicki and Jules, such inspirational souls both of you.
These three happy campers are happy precisely because they know coffee is just around the corner.
Aaah, that’s better.
Jane is off to do a spot of shopping between swimming and having coffee.
Over at Central Perk, Hugh and his colleagues had already consumed their daily bean allowance.
This morning, Jennifer Anniston and Lisa Kudrow kindly joined us on set. Kudrow was engaged in spooning peanut butter out of the little containers, clogging up her smile. Her agent (not pictured), told her to keep her mouth firmly shut while the camera was in the room.
The extras enjoyed extra cuppas while waiting for the next episode to be shot.
And while Nicki had her little Double Ian Act going on ever so subtly in the background…
.. a certain blogger (who shall remain nameless and Annanymous) was quite openly enjoying the doubly professional attention of the tandem team Andy and Dunstan. And served with delicious coffee too. She was told this treatment was called Sensory Overload (or) Remember Who You Are. Either way, she was later found wandering aimlessly through the streets of Manly with a stoopid smile on her face and unable to tell the officer her name, what year it is and who the hell is the current President of the United States of America.
148 lucky people enjoyed the perks of swimming with the Bold & Beautiful today. Three were brand spanking new (welcome!), and as many as 40 swam the early lap so they could fit in more cups of coffee afterwards before rushing off to work.
We are now in our seventh day of winter. Don’t forget to tick yourselves off the list so your efforts are recorded and ultimately rewarded with a Winter Badge. For the coveted badge, you have to swim at least 20 times over at least seven of the winter weeks. If you swim without a wetsuit, put a ‘W’ instead of a tick so you are sure to earn your WWW badge (Winter Without Wetsuit) as well. Check out this list to see how you’re doing so far.

Mark at the OzMus has sent this request:
“I’m on the hunt for some footage of a redfish (nannygai) or school of this species.
As usual, I would like to embed it on the website or add it to YouTube.
Thank you, Mark”.
Our very own Nick Dawkins provided this great pic – Mark is over the moon.

Girl Friday, that sign-off image is too much for a publicly viewed blog.
Best you come tomorrow dressed like that and we can discuss why!
Gärna svenska nationella dag! Hoppas du fick att dela kärlek, skratt och fantastisk mat!

I know for a fact that this post came from the Oaks Hotel, where you are enjoying a birthday lunch. Did they ask for ID, or are you with a responsible adult. I can be very responsible if I try hard. Let me know if you are kicking on and I’ll come back for a celebratory ale.

Oh no!!! Photographic proof of me getting out at Halfway!!
I can explain. My wife has to catch the 8am ferry so I need to be home at 7:40, which means I have to run up Addison Rd around 7:35. Also, Helen brought Jarrod along this morning who hadn’t swum in a year or so, and, exhausted by the chop, asked us to exit early. So Helen and I had to stay with him to make sure he’d be alright. Also, I thought I saw Anna waving for assitance when we passed Halfway. So needed to check on her and make sure she was fine.

Pehaps it’s a WWW thingy-trick – get out at HALFWAY and only HALF shiver through brekkie?
Sounds a lot more sensible than doing a Michael Christie SUPER shiver through brekkie!

…. and then time has to be allowed for the blog-tarting at Shelly after the pack has left, the exhaustion from all the sprints on the way over, the old wives that have to be visited each day at Half Way, the ladies who need assistance taking off their fins there, the paparazzi who are always looking for diving models just before the palm tree and…..
MOST IMPORTANT, little Ava waiting for her DAD!!!:-)))))
What were you saying, Jane?
