Glorious smiles welcomed
the 68 brave B&B swimmers this morning.
How could you feel anything other than inspired when greeted by this mob as we gather in our
little corner of Manly.
Rain looms on the horizon,
but the cloud cover blankets us with a relatively warm 14 degrees as we
commence the ritual disrobing for the daily dip.
Can you believe that we are
already into week 5 of the winter challenge! Lots of swimmers are on track for their 20
swims over seven weeks to qualify for the coveted Cold & Bold Winter badge. Some, like Robbie, are doing it without a
wetsuit to raise money for Bear Cottage (maybe that should be Bare. . .)
If you want to see how you are going, Click
here.
A week of wild weather
along the coast has delivered us waves!!
So unused to seeing these
naturally occurring phenomenon are we – well at least for the past few months –
that deciding to the beach or half-way caused a bit of a dilemma!
While not as forceful as
yesterday’s surf, there were some serious sets.
Because there are no badges for bravery in the face of pounding surf, a good
number of us scurried around to half-way. Much calmer!
The sun was even making a valiant
attempt to poke through the clouds. . .
While there were no fish spotted because of the poor visibility, there was love at Shelly. Could it be the mutual admiration of each
other’s blogs. . .
With the slightly warmer
air temperature, and no breeze, there was a playful mood at Shelly.
Now I would like you to
meet John. He joined us about three
months ago and has swum nearly every day!!
John is looking forward to tomorrow ‘cause he will get to meet Jules
when she returns for a brief visit.
Off again – some to the
surf and others to half-way.
Another beautiful morning to share with all of you.
Jules is back Tomorrow. Make sure you come on down for a swim with our fearless founder.
For those of you who have not had the privilege of meeting Jules – there
have been over 1,000 new swimmers since she moved to Perth – you have a few
days to get to know the inspiration behind this amazing swim squad. Wear your onesie!
Come along on Friday to The
Steyne’s Moonshine Bar in Manly from 6PM for the “Julie Isbill
welcome back drinks” See you there!
For your Diary
The B&B monthly dinner is a great
chance to catch up with your B&B friends at an informal gathering. Next one is on 2 July – which is next week. The cost
is excellent value at $20 for two courses, with $5 drinks, $5 desserts and no corkage
for BYO wine. Bluewater also now offers $25 special meals in addition to our standard $20 deal. Bookings
are essential so Click here to book early and avoid disappointment. Don’t forget, the next batch of 500 km badges
will also be presented on the night.
Be transported back to the 1920’s at the B&B Ball with the theme of The Great Gatsby with a touch of Pink. Enjoy a night out with your fellow
swimmers at the cinematic home of Jay Gatsby, the old St Patrick’s Seminary
in Manly (now the International College of Management).
You will enjoy a night of fun and entertainment for $85, which includes
a 3 course meal and drinks throughout the night.
Tickets are on sale and selling fast so head to: https://bnbball.arrangemyseat.com/ and
book your ticket. Gather your friends, select
your table and choose where you want to sit when you register.
Any questions? Ask Stephen, Nick,
Krystyna or Snorkles at any swim!
Staying safe
With the return of the winter swell, remember that there are no badges
for scaring yourself silly! While it is
great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe
in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.
See you tomorrow 🙂

Your refreshing Wednesday blog rocks!
But more images of your angelic self please……
Why do Rob and Bubbles look so happy with Lucy holding the meat thermometer as if its just been used (and DWSS nowhere to be seen)?

Lips, I actually made a late entry today! Was hoping to catch in the water off Half Way, but was running late and then there were the Integrity Police roadblocks and so on:-)
Thanks for the tips on the Sickie Swim, Storchy – I think I got it mostly right, except I’d swum a few strokes before I remembered the bit about only going in with water up to chest level! Still, seem to have survived, even though I had no voice at brekkie!

What happens if you don’t have any friends and you still want to come to the ball, do you have to sit at a table all by yourself, or can the management organise the onesie ticket purchasers onto suitable tables? I don’t to see DWSS sitting at a table by himself, it might hurt his feelings
lesbubbles
26/06/2013 at 2:54 pm
Hey Inez – once you buy your ticket it takes you to seat allocation and shows you all the tables and who is on each table – you just add your name to the table with the hottest guys! 😀
Snorkles
26/06/2013 at 3:15 pm
Hey Inez definitely can move you onto a popular onesie table, or move DWSS to a table for one. All very easy to manage!

Oh LSA! What a shame I missed you!!
I formed a spontaneous 6:59 start group with Gareth to get a head start through the surf. Didnt realize Gareth was wearing his flippers, so had a very lonely swim over to Shelly. Must have been the last arriving there, so you were probably already on your way back by then..
See you tomorrow. Try and be there 6:57, for the banter!

You forgot ‘Halfway Round-the-Boat’ and ‘Shelly Round-the-Boat’, which have enjoyed great popularity over recent days! 🙂

I’ll be there super early tomorrow after taking my mini-plunge today….. so excited to see Jules again and a few regulars I’ve still not caught up with…. voice or no voice!
So no chance of lonely onesie for you tomorrow. You’ll be stopping at every boat and palm tree, waiting for me to catch up and you’ll have company when we arrive last!
Little Sarah aka LSA aka HKTQ
26/06/2013 at 3:43 pm
Oh yes…and The Palm Tree Turtle Run was pretty popular…. Then there’s The Quick Half-Way Dip Tick & Coffee before work…
And the most popular of all time was…….
The Whale Came To Us and Stopped us Swimming from Half-Way to Shelly!!
Da, da!!! Come back Mrs Whale for Jules and everyone else!!

Hey Sarah, thank you for listing your List of trickery. This makes it easier to train other integrity police officers.
Sarah, I think you have missed the point.
For the 1/2 way shuffle to be illegal, it must be under the following criteria-
1/ flat surf day
2/ your name must be Lips or HKTQ
3/ you must have ticked
4/ you must get caught.
For everyone else, this rule does not apply.
It is important to keep the integrity of the PC challenge and it is a burden for Storchy and myself to be whistle blowers but we are willing to do so and cop the flack!
Inez
26/06/2013 at 4:35 pm
DWSS, what do you mean? As you are one of the hottest guys, aren’t you already on a table with them?
DWSS
26/06/2013 at 4:39 pm
I also did catch you today ticking at 740 (dry) and running off stating something about doing the swim now.
Sorry, under rule 53A, this is not an officially sanctioned time and
1/ your name is either Lips or HKTQ – tick
2/ you got caught- tick
3/ you ticked – tick
Sarah, tsk tsk. Your going to need to pay yourself to get out of this one!

Yeh, yeh, yeh…chew Jules’s ear off with this one too and see what she says – already included in your Nag List above under “The Sickie Late Entry”!
You were included in “The Whale Came To Us and Stopped us Swimming from Half-Way to Shelly” excursion weren’t you? Only on your Nag List if you weren’t there, of course:-))

DWSS – please come and join us on Old Wives! Though we won’t be called that for long – we are thinking of a more elegant fishy name, such as Fan-Bellied Leatherjackets or Weeping Toadies.
