183 Bold and Beautiful swimmers…“were so excited, watching from the shoreline, as the waves crashed in’…
“…left us all flummoxed and delighted, laughing at the way, we got pummelled in…”
Okay. Agreed. I should leave the lyric-writing to Garrett and Moginie but I know some of you old rockers (you know who you are), will remember rocking out (& wringing out your clothes!) after seeing the Oils do their thing at the Narrabeen Antler …uh huh!
and some of you are too young to remember…
but one thing we ALL enjoy is getting rocked around by this fabulous (and never to be under-estimated) surf…
Staying safe
Remember
that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great
to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Do
read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even

Okay…so the predicted drop in air temp didn’t happen and the water is
still a balmy (gorgeous!) 18.3 degrees…but I was struggling for a
storyline and under time pressure. A more appropriate line might be…“but you came and went so fast” (but I have sneaking suspicion the real chill is still ahead)…but who cares, we’re still smiling and it’s ALL good!

Great job Sparkles and well ahead of the deadline!
My title would have been “Jenny Knapman to the Rescue!” There were some very big sets when 6.59ers came back in and Jenny was out there, shouting simple, clear, authoritative instructions – “Over here!”, “Dive!”, “Go now!”, “Back out, dive, dive!”, “Go!”, “Don’t stop!” with lots of encouragement back to the shore. Thanks also to Simon C for joining our party and to Lips for always looking out for us – “Dive!’, “Dive!”!
And what a beautiful day it is!

Storchy, you asked me about the Blue (or Neon) Damsel (Pomacentrus coelestis) as follows:
“I’ve only ever seen them about 2.5cm and it notes on Oz Mus site that they grow to 10cm. Can you explain the difference?
Also for some reason I’ve seen them there for about two years (including winter) but they seem to have disappeared now. Any ideas?”
I checked when at the OzMus and Mark McGrouther said those are the questions that researcher David Booth is asking: we don’t know where they breed, where they hatch, at what stage they come to the shore reefs, why and where they go. David is interested to hear about sightings of them.

Nice blog! Thanks Sarah, Rainer and Helen for looking after me when we got caught in the big set of waves when coming back in. And especially Jenny for directing us through the waves. I thought it was quite scary.

Anyone got two tickets to spare for two lady friends of mine ? I successfully sold the idea, we had seen the Great Gatsby together, and now I have to tell them to put away the handbags and the gladrags that their Grandads had to sweat so they could buy.

Well done Sparkles, our lovely fill in blogger. You got the blog out so quick too! Look forward to swimming with you all tomorrow! If any ladies need dresses for the Ball (or men if they want to come as transvestites, now there’s an idea, come on Storchy!) I have a couple of spare!
