29/07/13 – Comfortably numb

29/07/201312

Were you one
of the lucky 96 swimmers who rocked up this morning?  An amazing morning don’t you think?

One could almost be forgiven for thinking
that winter is so last week.

The water
has climbed to 17.5 degrees – that is 1.1 degrees in the past week.  Even as we assembled like seals basking in the sun
around the surf club, the gentle nor’ easter made it feel a whole lot warmer
than 11 degrees.

But it is a
swim after all, so time to stop sunning ourselves and get wet.

Plus there
were waves to make it a bit more fun.

Something I
did notice was the absence of cold patches.
Even the arctic like rim of cold water that forms a barrier around
Shelly was less apparent.  It was a
comfortable, if slightly churned up, swim across the bay.

Gathering around
the shore provided the opportunity to pick up on conversations begun at
Manly.

Many were about THE Ball.  As some of us have taken just a little longer
to recover, this was the first opportunity to swap stories and give our congratulations
to the organisers.

Lesley needed a little encouragement from John, till she
graciously consented to call the ‘Let’s Go’ for the return swim.

The murky water made fish hunting a challenge.  However there were a couple of
the regular bay inhabitants busy with their morning feed.

Then all too
soon it is over.  How does that half hour
go so quickly?  It was a day to laze about watching the clouds sail past – not that they were moving very fast.

As nice as it was to hang about in the sun post swim, breakfast and more Ball gossip awaits us.

The
next B&B monthly dinner

The B&B
fun just keeps on rolling with the monthly dinner on 6 August.  Come along for this fun event which is such excellent value.  At $20 for two courses, with $5 drinks, $5 desserts and no corkage

. Bluewater also offers a $25 special meal in addition to our standard $20 deal. Bookings

will also be presented on the night.

Staying
safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly!  While it is great to extend your boundaries,
it is important to know your limits.  Do
read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf.  To read, or even download, click here.

Great blog Mary. So serene today. I’m sure if Michael C. was here he would tell you not to get too comfortable with the balmy water temp, as it’s sure to head south again before the end of Winter.

For the Record DWSS stands for Dolphin Whisperer Slowest Shaun.
SS was Slowest Shaun before Snorkelling Sharon and Secret Squirrel both jumped on the SS bandwagon to confuse things.
Lovely blog Mary and congratulations on the 300k!!!

Fab blog, as usual Mary! My favourite photos: Mike Stacey explaining some Incredibly Important Point to a rapt audience; and Lesbubbles in operatic mode calling the ‘let’s go!’
And of course your utterly gorgeous and glamorous sign-off pic.
