19/08/13 – Chopical not tropical – 108 swimmers 16.7 degrees

19/08/201311

It might have been 9 degrees at Manly this morning this morning but there was frost on the ground when I left home and the water was cool all the way across the bay, so I take my pink cap off to Toni and Ian who both made their 20th WWW (winter without setsuit) swims this morning.

Toni was definitley counting:

And just to prove she really swam!

And here is Ian psyching himself up for the cold water

And in the cold water

But I doubt many can beat 007s effort (aka J Bond) who had his 66th WWW swim this morning

These two told me they have never been in the blog before!

The usual early risers were there to watch the sunrise

The wind was up early as well as the sun, so it was “choppy” all the way
with most people getting double their daily dose of NaCl (aka salt).

And the ususal early early risers were there for the early swim so they could see the sunrise from a watery perspective

David Ingham and friends

Two beautiful smiles

And one more

Chris Milne making an appearance

Another handsome face

The daily migration begins with a splash

And stops at Shelley

It might have been choppy on top but it was crystal clear below the water

And finishes with a coffee on the beach?

Today’s stats

Total swimmers: 108

Welcome to the newbies: 0

Water Temp: 16.7c

Air Temp: 9c

Sunrise: 6:28am

Sunset: 5:28pm

My thanks to the chap who coaxed me along on the outward leg. I wasn’t drowning but after 3 months away I have bought a wet suit that is so tight I think it expects me to swim without breathing.

Great blog! Lovely photos. Even though I know the swim is at my own risk, I am always grateful when someone asks if I am ok so all you nice swimmers who do that, keep it up.

Thanks Joe for getting the monday blog out for us!
The hardest part of blogging, I think, is being on the ball first thing in the morning and taking photos when all you want to do is swim! Making sure you capture the morning and so on – so well done!
I swam with flippers for the first time in AGES this morning and I gotta say, ahem… I barely had to do anything I pretty much floated to Shelly! (probably like wearing a wetsuit!!) 😀
As of lunchtime the water is back to pristine conditions!! I hope it stays for the morning!
I made this video for Elaine and her birthday …bit of a laff 🙂
