20/9/13 – Surprise! (What did you miss out on?)

20/09/201329

Friday is here after an “interesting” week… the Ocean has settled a bit and we’re back to sunny mornings and temps in the mid 20s.

This is the scene at 5:47am…

Most of the brown foam is gone and it’s nice and warm as we gather in our favourite spot.

This is the 6:30 group going out .. mostly socially awkward types who are not good in crowds… usually have some sort of excuse like “I have to get to work..” or something similar…

Here’s the first of the surprises this morning …..

Some people find it hard getting up in the morning – and others come up with ingenious ways of saving time and being prepared… like sleeping in your swim gear… genius!!

Cara thinks she’s a hammerhead – interesting fact – the hammerhead can bite it’s own tail…. (Cara?)

Sterling proving he fits right in with us…. nice swimmers mate!

Those of us that have not yet received their winter badges – please see ” The Badginator”

Listen, and understand. That badginator is out there. It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.  The 600 series had rubber skin. We spotted them easy, but these are new. They look human… sweat, bad breath, everything. Very hard to spot. I had to wait till he moved on you before I could zero him…..

Baby Washbrook came down with mum Emily  to suss things out and try on her new pink hat…

…..and here is the OTHER surprise this morning…. Michael dropping in for a week or so!

Darren getting his swimming head on right before we dive into 16.6c!

Michael shows us he still has it with the ladies…

Lyndall is blog tart of the week… here she is giving the all clear at the point….

…and still photobombing at Shelley…

Jane’s birthday today – Happy birthday young lady…

we had a little sing song of course…..

and then we’re off again!

The water was murkier than the Boatshed on a tuesday night but we did see a couple of things out there –  this massive flathead…

and Maruicio dived down 6 meters to get these 2 PJs hiding in the murky depths….

Stats:

Charity Events:

This Sunday let’s join James Pittar (the blind marathon swimmer) on a swim from Shelly beach to North Steyne!!!  He will be swimming from Long Reef and is expected into Shelly around 11.30am.  Once he arrives there we jump in with him and continue up to North Steyne Surf Club. Where there will be a delicious BBQ and refreshments!

James is raising money for the Fred Hollows Foundations

A big group of Bold and Beautiful swimmers joined him last year so let’s do it again this year!

    Fun blog Nick
Mauricio’s PJs are amazing considering the relatively poor water clarity and the 6 m depth

    Many Happy Returns, Young Jane!
Michael, great to see you in Manly, but why are you crying while the ladies are patting and stroking you?
Only 2 wks til I join you all – I’m dreaming of calm, clear seas and sunshine and Jon’s dreaming of super rough conditions and torrential rain:-)))

Oh LSA – it will be SOOOOO lovely to have you back. We have all missed your lively company such a lot. In fact Lips was pining away so much that he (almost) had to be hospitalised (with Manflu!).

True, counting the hours until LSA’s return. It just isnt the same without the Triad Queen. It’s a miracle I even get out of bed at the moment..
    Happy Birthday Jane!!!

Badginator / Bubbles – can you please bring my 2x badges down tomorrow? Will bring cash.
I feel naked without my 2013 winter badges. Everyone else is running around with them, all smug and pleased with themselves.. looking down on me like I’m nothing..

Sorry Mauricio, got my Spanish and Italian mixed up – should have said “Pero no hablo….”, not “mas”. I should have tried it in Portuguese – then you could really have a laff!

Did you know that people that swim together are, statistically, the least likely to ever go to war with each other? Fact. Google it.
