what a lovely sparkly blog, Lesley. Such a beautiful day.
Unfortunately i am sitting here with mild concussion and a gashed face, and would therefore like to make a request.
If you are going to have a randomly timed swim which does not coincide with any of the THREE timeslots which now exist in the mornings, could you PLEASE make it your business to at least check for incoming traffic before you sprint off from Shelly flat-chat?
Both early groups leave smartly with exactly enough time to avoid collisions with groups heading off. Drinks is very judicious in making sure that there is no incoming swimmer (and if there is, directs the group to avoid them) and also that return time is no later than 6.45 in order to avoid the 7am’ers. Ditto with the much smaller 6am Lemur Run. We leave at 6, and after the all clear at Shelley, we return at 6.15.
Now the ocean is a free place and there is plenr=ty of space, and naturally enough people can swim whenever they want to. But surely, if you are going to sprint off from Shelley at 6.40, you might happen to look up before you start and note the presence of a wall of swimmers just 20m off shore?? On the few occasions I have had to swim out of timeslot I have swam really wide, or right next to the rocks.
This is the second collision in a fortnight that I haven’t managed to avoid. I check ahead of myself about every ten metres and have had to pull up many times, but today was an absolute cracker which rendered me momentarily blind. Please, fellow swimmers, if you are going to choose a random timeslot, when leaving Shelly, could you please check that a group isnt about to arrive? That’s just common sense and will save on the painkillers. Thanks.

Fifi
I’m really sorry to hear about this. I saw you this morning when we got out from Drinky express and I thought you’d been hit – HARD, there was certainly blood on your snoz.
I’ts something that Drinks and I have been meaning to talk to the PC powers that be for some time.
Obviously the ocean is free for all but if we could all swim with the 6, 6.30 or 7am trains it would save a lot of collisions and hurt.
People with hard bleached heads can’t get hurt but they can hurt others. And I agree it’s only common decency if your swimming out of sinc to look up regularly to miss others and swim wide or on the rocks if you are going against the flow.
Hope your headache subsides and your feeling better by the time you read this Fifi.

Great. Blog Lesbutt. I nearly swam straight into the Balmoral Head Butters over the last month. (Wednesdays)They don’t even wear pink caps. They leave the beach around 6.48 and you will run into them on the way to Shelly.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune Fi.
Thank you for putting this on the blog.
A good reminder for swimmers to keep awareness and consideration at top of mind.

Some how, I don’t think embarrassment will be a short term item.
Embarrassment comes with a 10 year guarantee
This product will be raised at random opportunities (by our loving and inclusive group) to heighten your value for money!
Congratulations

Hi Fifi – sorry to hear about that! I think you will find it was not a BnB swimmer that you hit – were they wearing a pink cap?? Unfortunately if it wasn’t a BnBer then they probably won’t read the blog. I have had a few nears misses recently and each one was NOT wearing a pink cap! 😉

And happy BIRTHWEEK to pretty Niki Brake.
Niki has gone to ground this week to hide from our all inclusive group so that she doesn’t have to face turning 45 and our Birthweek Wishes.
Binsey is taking her up to Berowra Waters for lunch on Saturday (the man’s a saint)!
Lets all wish Niki B a big Pink Caps Happy Birthweek and give her a big hug when she finally raises her head to reality!

Sadly lesbubs it was indeed a pink cap, as we’re my previous encounters and near misses. Stopped to check the damage.
It was a accident, but one which could have been avoided. No hard feelings either, he is a nice person and hey, accidents happen. I just want to encourage awareness and reduce the chances of more collisions. It really hurt!
