Today’s blog is brought to you by us, guest bloggers, Dylan (aged 7) and Jared (aged 5).

Today was our FIRST paddle to Shelly beach. It was great conditions out there today – really flat.
It felt just like swimming in a fishbowl. As per normal below is a picture of the sunrise coming up over the sea.

It really was nice and peaceful out there

I (Dylan) set off really fast but decided to have a bit of a rest here to let the others catch up so that they didn’t feel bad about me finishing so far in front.

It was great arriving at Shelly Beach with all the other fast swimmers.
Because I (Jared) am also a very fast paddler I decided to give all the other swimmers a few 100 metres head start before I set off back to Manly.

I still arrived in Manly well ahead of the others (they are nowhere to be seen)

Here are some photos of the sea life today (like I said it was so flat like swimming in a fish bowl)
Jay-Jay the snail

Blobs the fish as spotted by me (Jared). I had to dive really deep to take this photo!

A crazy fish that only I (Dylan) was brave enough to photograph.
The next few photos were sent to us by Steevan Colter…. not as good as ours …but we put them up anyway…

Not sure what this is?? Plastic bag??

Anyway back to us – we needed to get in some serious ‘blog tarting’ before Lips tried to jump in…
Here’s Dr John and Anne doing today’s attendance…they look a bit too relaxed though with their coffees and deck chairs! This was Dr John’s first time helping out and we hear he LOVED doing it so much he now wants to do it EVERY DAY! Thanks Dr John! and thanks again Anne – what a couple of legends!

See you all next time!! Signing Off Dylan and Jared
The boring bit at the end of the blog – this is by Lesbubbles …
Hi Everyone – Hope you enjoyed the boys blog above!! What Legends! The swim’s blogger didn’t turn up so they stepped in and saved the day!! Thanks guys!!
CAPS!
We are very low in pink caps so some serious recycling needs to be done! All those swimmers who swim regularly who have 2 or more caps at home can you please bring the extra ones to us to re-use! Apart from the environmental reasons we are actually running out (till the new stock arrives)
THANKS!
SHARKS!
ALSO – as much as we wouldn’t want to come face to face with a shark in the ocean I am sure we all KNOW that part of swimming in the ocean is that ‘risk’… HOWEVER I for one LOVE that the sharks are there BUT apparently:
Premier Colin Barnett has announced a policy to kill endangered White sharks in the hope this will reduce the incidence of shark attack on WA beaches.
So please use this online form HERE to send Premier Barnett a message telling him that shark killing does not have your support. (or copy and paste this link http://ccwa.org.au/action/no-shark-cull-wa)
B&B Attendance Login
Come on folks – this is the most efficient way to capture your swims. It’s a smart phone friendly website so no need to download, just mark it as a bookmark. There are so many good reasons to use the B&B Login – like no queues, no need for glasses to find your name, and never missing the 7am call.
Log your swim between 5am and 9am for the easy way to ensure your swim is recorded in the daily attendance and on the Pacific Challenge. To get started, send an email to Ian Forster (ugoboyo@gmail.com). He will check that your email address is activated on the attendance register then send you info on how to get started. Happy clicking.
Summer badge swims
Every Saturday during summer there will be a 6km swim – usual route is to Freshwater and back; then once a month there is a 10km swim – this is to South Curl Curl and back. However, the final route depends on conditions that day so it is a good idea to arrive a little early to have a briefing from the designated swim leader. Both swims kick off at 7am.
The next 10km swim is scheduled for 11 January depending on conditions.

Well done to all the swimmers who completed the 6k swim this morning, especially the first timers.
The conditions were great at Manly but we experienced the southerly chop at Queenscliff,Freshwater and on the return. The seas then calmed once we neared the volleyball courts.
A special mention is given to Teagan who is 13 years old,a great effort, and Laura from London who is a long distance swimmer but her first 6km in ocean waters.

This will be subject to conditions in the harbour.

By the way whoever’s in charge, I don’t think I got credited for the 6km swim today as my PC has only gone up 1.5 km. My fault as I didn’t log in for it beforehand because I thought I’d wait and see how I felt after the Shelly swim. (Sorry, guys).

Hi Everyone who did the 6KM – The login app has had time restrictions taken off – so you can STILL log your swim via here:
http://www.iswimtoo.com/mobile/
You can do it from your phone OR a computer!! (It is actually just a website not an actual app).

Great blog boys – the best one ever1
Thanks to everyone on the 6km swim today. It was a fun adventure and not quite as flat out there as it looked from the surf club. Special thanks to John Bond for keeping us all and particularly me, safe. Also to Ian and Elizabeth who flanked me, offering encouragement and kept me going when the wind came up. Thanks Elaine for keeping we slower swimmers in sight and gathering us all at various stages. I was so pleased when the white apartment building at the point came into focus and we had made it back to our gorgeous, familiar and protected end of the beach. After 3 hours swimming I thought I would have abs like John Bond…. oh well

I would like to mention the 6.30 am 6km squad today,
which included an amazing lady named Louise.
She drives an hour and a half to get to manly just to swim. She is currently strapped into a leg brace and swims in a splint. She did a great job of swimming 6km today, especially since she can only kick with ONE foot. She was then off to Bowral to compete on some show jumping on her horse.
It was such a beautiful swim and she was very inspiring. You should all come say hi to Louise when she comes to swim.

Loved the blog guys. I feel that as a child myself I was much more in tune with what you were saying!!!
A question for all of you out there, how do we sort out the pre “let’s go” swimmers setting off to Shelly. Is it even a problem? I’m sure when I set off this morning 100 people where already standing on the sand. Any solutions?

Great blog boys. Enjoyed reading it even though I didn’t swim today. It would be lovely to have some more guest bloggers every now and again- especially from the kids perspectives.

There I was, teaching Dylan and Jared the basics of blog tarting. Encouraging them to write their own BnB blog, featuring mostly (of course) themselves..
Alas, fame and fortune went to their heads. Erasing their very mentor from the sign-off pic. It hurts. It really does!
Great blog nonetheless. I’ve got nothing left to teach them. Time for me to retire..
