It is always nice to get a text from Sterling at 6:20am when you are still sound asleep. All it said was ‘pool like conditions’. How can you resist that? Sterling had a sleep over at ours last night to watch the State of Origin. What a cracker of a game – well done to the Blues! It reminded me of a gutsy victory I had recently over Scrappy Scotty… but I digress. Here is the 7am crew entering the still warm water!
More and more Orca wetsuits are beginning to appear, but I reckon you still only need the slugos, a pink cap and a pair of your favourite goggles.
Today we continue our series on ROCKS OF THE BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL (after a short one week hiatus). We come to the notorious Dead End Rock or as I like to call it Brad’s Barrier. Dead End Rock juts out of the point and catches any pointy end swimmer who has tried to make a move up the inside too early. This particular rock has caught a leading Brad a number of times on his way to victory… only to see him settle for a certificate of participation.
The Spaniard is back from Colombia where he was doing some Christian Peacemaking work. Make sure you ask him about the work he does in bringing reconciliation and forgiveness around the world. He also came in first today, disturbing the peace of the other contenders.
Have you met Brad Thornton? He is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and one of our regular 6:30am swimmers. He is the Father of 6 great kids and if you ever need some advice on marriage or raising kind, compassionate, wonderful kids – speak to him. He has great wisdom!
Finally did you see our own Julia Baird’s wonderful piece about female street artists in the New York Times this week? It features my beautiful wife’s sister who is an incredible street artist. Click here for the link…
Righty oh. I had a picture of Dreamboat revealling a bit too much Dreamboat… but I will keep it PG and sign off for the week. Maybe if I get 50 comments on this blog I will put it up, but it may make you throw up!
Lots of love, the Bishop!

Truly lovely conditions. Very green sea weed near the point that I normally steer clear of. When I finally finished swimming this morning a helicopter was circling above me. I was worried at what it might be looking at so I tried to rush in. Lot of splashing but farming says pace unchanged. Apparently there was a whale nearby! A photographer Andrew fawcett got some shots from north head of it. I think swimming within 10km of a whale might be a badge idea….

Very Amusing. Wish I was there this morning to try and emulate Darius Boyd’s origin performance and cross the line first!
Loving the ‘Rockumentary’ Series. Small correction, I think Dead End Rock is in the bottom right hand corner of the frame?
Looking forward to reading about some of the underwater rocks that guide swimmers in on the correct trajectory.

Marvellous article Julia. Those women are so courageous – it’s not just their comfort that is at stake, but in some countries their life.

I used to be involved in peacemaking work myself. Our philosophy was “Peace through superior firepower”. Is that what the Spaniard does? Works on a contract basis?
