27/6/14 – Getting Down to the Business of Winter

27/06/201412

Yes it’s another Friday morning in sunny Manly 🙂 I don’t know about you, but we can sense the day starting just a little bit earlier now – It’s not pitch black at 6:30!

The car was saying it was 10c on the way down from the Far North, but it looks like it’s going to be a great weekend… here’s the forecast…

Partly cloudy. Winds northwesterly 15 to 25 km/h. Max 21

So many supermodels turning up these days…

This is “Shuggie” waiting for Sandy MacIndoe (not “Shagger” as per Neil Beachley)

John wears Stella McCartney with a Marc Jacobs bag and a Gina Foster beanie…

“Is it cheating?” pt 1. Some people like to wear gloves because their hands get cold..

Is this taking it too far….?

“How to Get Ahead in the B&B pt 4”

If your swimming kit looks like this, – you’re doing it wrong..

It’s the right time of year for some sunrise water entry shots….

More supermodels…

The best way to get in… demonstrated by Rusty…

While we’re underwater, our very own Snorkels will be Scuba diving tomorrow with her trusty camera, looking to take pics of us all as we swim over the top.

She will be lurking (as usual) somewhere near the bottom close to the pool at halfway so keep your eye out for her..

It sounds very “arty” and I’m sure it will be done in the best possible taste!

After weeks of negotiation, our people were able to do a deal with Bruce’s people and allow us a shot of him at Shelley.

Today is lovely Ros’s birthday – here she is being showered with love at Shelley

And now for some underwater action – starting with the flathead…

The same flathead on drugs…

The Scorpion Fish – we’ve seen him before – he was redder…

.. and it might be last drinks for Mr Cuttlefish as the breeding season is coming to a close…

Here we see him hiding from Luis Suarez…

Finally… it has been a little chilly this week, make sure you take care after the  swim to replce that body heat..

If you don’t have to rush off, hang around for a while with us .. we don’t mind you checking your emails..

…or maybe pop in to Bluewater, where they always look after you and go that extra yard to make you feel special…

Stats:

Swimmers: 118

Newbies: 3

Water: 17.6c

Dives in the World Cup: 89,544

Have a good one 🙂 Nick D

Monthly Dinner – Bluewater Cafe, Tuesday 8th July at 6.30 pm

This month’s guest speaker, Valerie Taylor in her early life was a champion spearfisher, but, with her husband Ron, she switched from killing sharks to filming them after becoming fascinated with marine life. Ron and Valerie were the first people to film great white sharks without the protection of a cage or anything else during the making of the series Blue Wilderness in 1992. Valerie became a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2010 for service to conservation and the environment as an advocate for the protection and preservation of marine wildlife and habitats. Valerie will give a talk about her various experiences with sharks over the years. She will also show a short film on the marine world in Indonesia and how it has changed.

The cost will be only $20 a head and includes shared entrees, a selection of main to choose (incl a vegetarian option) and free corkage (for byo wine only) and a little thank you for the staff.

All beers, wine and deserts are an optional extra at the special price of only $5 each !!
BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL, so book here now!!

Week 5 of the Winter Badge season.

There are 14 weeks in the winter season.  To qualify for the prized Cold & Bold Badge you simply need to swim 20 times within the season ensuring you have swum in a minimum of 7 different weeks.  So, attempting to do it all in the first few weeks does not count!!  Make sure you use the i-Log to register your without wetsuit for the WWW badge.

B&B i-Log

The B&B i-Log is the best way to capture your swims!!  Log your swim ANYTIME of day using this really efficient and easy way to ensure your swim is recorded in the daily attendance and on the Pacific Challenge.. To get started, send an email to Ian Forster ugoboyo@gmail.com (This is not a link so please copy and paste into your email). He will check that your email address is activated on the attendance register then send you info on how to get started.

Staying safe

There may not be any waves just at the moment, but are you prepared for their return? Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly!  While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.  Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf.  To read, or even download, click here.

Great blog Nick. Orca should be sponsoring Bruce & co and Hustler magazine sponsoring Blue Water. I’ll sponsor my favourite girl who has her 39th birthday today !

Great blog mate. Funny and great photos. I’m looking for a new marketing/copywriter at work – I think Turbo might be just what i’m looking for! I can pay him in biscuits. Like I do my other staff.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. It was a truly-ruly spectacular start to the day with a purple-pre-sunrise, a round or two of sand-crawling (courtesy of booty camp), and then a showery song at Shelly. All before 8am!
