If you arrive here early enough you get to hear the manic après swim banter of Billy and Fi! Worth listening to! 😉 Speaking of brave souls.. These 2 go out pretty much by themselves at 6 whilst it’s still pitch black!!
But I think we are all brave souls going out in this everyday! After 3.5 years I still think it’s amazing.. I never stop appreciating it all! I am definitely a lot braver a person since I started swimming with BnB in the ocean! I think most of us probably are yeah?
Today’s swim ? It was pretty dark and gloomy when I arrived …see below first 4 pics… It was cold and rainy and over caste … Not that many swimmers.
Getting in made me scream swear words! But of course that is a very temporary state because once in..its very refreshing, invigorating! The water is still very clear and thank god as it helps take my mind off the cold!
Getting to Shelly .. It was definitely warmer OUT than in! Which means air temp was well above water temp 17..
Quick turnaround .. Well it was for those of us in last! Then back across the bay we went…
At one point it started to rain which most of us know how magical that is! Just when the cold was really starting to get into my bones I smelt the best smell .. Smoke! Possibly from a bush fire or someone’s chimney? It was enough to distract me till I got to the point … The toughest part of the swim ( for me) is from halfway to the point.. Even now!!
From the point it was a race to get back to shore.. Well it was for me 😉
Of course the last photo truly shows what it was like out there today as it is never really gloomy.. Well, after the swim THIS is how it really looks … Through happy cleansed eyes!!
Yay!
So today’s stats are;
80 swimmers. 0 newbies. 17.7 degrees.

Yeh, went in at 6.20 with Bob and it was very, very dark. I’d forgotten my light, so didn’t see a couple of waves or Bob again until past the Point. Just as well I didn’t follow him – when we got out, seems he’d found all the rocks and was cut and grazed, but he’s used to it!
Actually, a beautiful glassy swim – met the Drinkless Express at Shelly and just back in time to greet the shrinking 7.00 ers.

Love your blog today Lesbubbles. I really like the personal account. I agree – ‘Half-way Beach’ to ‘The Point’ does seem a long way. I also find that I seem to be swimming solo until I get to the point – then I’m surrounded as I hit the bottle neck. I always try and take it nice and wide. The B+W pictures gave a good representation of the morning – and made it look more atmospheric.

The photos are fabulous. The blog almost makes up for missing a swim. I don’t know how the pre 7 am swimmers swim in the dark. Just great swimmers I suppose

Lovely blog Lesbubbles. I am missing a few swims and wishing I could be swimming in cold water in the dark with all the fish. We are so lucky. Lucky to have Cabbage Tree Bay. Lucky that our water temp is this warm in winter. Lucky to have each other to swim with. I am incredibly grateful for BnB.

I’ve never read a bad blog from any of you lot. And I never thought I’d say this (being a Blue Mtns resident – think last October bush fires), but it’s so cold here at the mo that the smell of wood smoke is absolutely comforting. Especially when it’s from my fire-place in the dining room. Can’t wait to see the B ‘n’ B again too!!
