03/10/2014 – DAWN PATROL: Bathed in yellow light

03/10/201411

Please bear with me, as there is a lot to get through – because I started before sunrise.  BLOG FOOTNOTE:  You can zoom in on any photo by clicking on the image.  (There are several mob photos today, and you may want to zoom in on some of these.)

5.22 am: Bower Lane

5.24 am: Bower St hilltop carpark

5.25 am: Backpacker overnighting on Shelly hillside

5.34 am: Lone snorkeler at Shelly Beach.  And a magpie

5.45 am: This is why they named beach so

5.37 am: Three droogs emerge from headland, carrying a wine bladder

5.38 am: Lone paddler heads in, as first sun strikes Manly

5.40 am: Champagne sunrise on headland carpark: “It’s my birthday, and a surprise from my friend”

5.40 am: The sun now bathing everything yellow …

Various evidential litter from nocturnal parkers last night.  Write your own stories …

5.46 am: Four unidentified swimmers heading east past Bower Lane …

The triathlon club faction:  They are heading off at 6 am …

Triathlete Chris takes it in the neck.  An electrician, he’s just come of a fortnight of nightshift.  Works with currents – and swims in them too

Triathlete Bryan grew up in Alaska.  “But I’ve lived in California and Texas … thinned the blood out, and now I wear a wetsuit all year round.”  Where does he live now?  “Up there.  A hundred steps away.  How can I not swim!”

Another wash of  yellow sunlight:  It’s the 5.55 am splitters.

The tri club about to launch …

Drinks Express “Let’s Go” Shelly Beach VIP:  World Lifesaving Champion – Nanette Crawford.  Nanette Crawford won at the World Lifesaving Championships at le Grande Motte in the South of France.

Yes – of course I saw the hooks.  (And Ian’s still looking for his tables …)

Ros spends time with Rosie Cooper each morning.  I called the dog a bitch – and it nipped me.  “She’s very particular about her company,” Ros explains.

Coffee time.  Sam and Hakan of Bench.  Hakan’s a Turk and he’s very particular about his coffee.

No Pink Lipstick:  One of the things I really enjoy and admire about this swimming group, is seeing all you wonderful women – of every age – without make-up.  Fresh-faced, blessed by the ocean … happy, fit and seizing the dawn.  I reckon it’s so cool

Manly Council: educating us beach-goers …

In the Name of Science: Latest B&B badge is being rated for durability and seaworthiness over next four weeks

Don’t Get Too Fit and Skinny: CAKE STALL!  Pick up a delicious cake this Sunday morning after your swim.   Help support the Sunsuper Ride to Conquer Cancer.  Jennie Rees’s husband Olly Rees is doing this two-day, 200 kilometre ride – and as part of his fundraising efforts, there will be a cake stall post-swim on Sunday.  Bring your money with you please.  DONATED CAKES most welcome!

Bondinator: Chasing 007:  At the break of day, many minds turn to our man Bond.  John Bond.  The man with the golden thermometer.  Catch him if you can, but he’s somewhere out there in the Pacific – swimming in front of the pack.  Almost 1900 kilometres to date …

Speaking of Mr Bond, he received this health magazine in the post this week …

Fishing in marine sanctuaries

Dive Centre Manly’s proprietor Richard Nicholls is seeking our support this morning, in his efforts to stop the allowing of fishing in NSW marine sanctuaries (such as South West Rocks and Jarvis Bay) as introduced some 18 months ago.  Manly’s Cabbage Tree Bay remains a No-Fishing zone, and Richard says it features up to 20 times more fish as you’d see elsewhere along the coast.

Things we can do – to reverse the NSW Government’s allowance of fishing in marine sanctuaries:

Contact Mike Baird.

Visit his office at 2/2 Wentworth Street, Manly

Email him on: manly@parliament.nsw.gov.au

Post him a handwritten letter.  His office is obligated to reply!

Phone the office:  (02) 9976 2773

do you think the fact that most of Mike Baird’s family swim with us can help get a good word in?! 😉
And thanks to Manly Council for our lovely new hooks! ….BUT if I hear one more person saying something negative about them i will bop the offender on the head! (yes I heard people say things like – “there aren’t enough” or “i liked the tables” (er..hello!! the tables looked sh*t!!)..Seriously this is a really big deal getting them!! and they look great !! 😀
Good to see Sam and Hakan on the blog! I get my coffee from them everyday!

I think our own Mr Bond’s real bod looks much hotter than the one you posted his head on to. Not just the girls who look good sans usual apparel or makeup of a morning.
PS I think you got a bit ahead of yourself with daylight saving – its turn back an hour tomorrow night, not turn back a month last night. Still, thoroughly enjoyed your blog as usual. Thank you.

I remember you, Kissy Suzuki! Another great 007 name. Oops-plus and regrets. Yes, I will amend ‘September’ to read ‘October’. And yes, I concur … the local Mr Bond is built like wrought iron!

Heeeeelp I left my Speedo Pantsy Things near the hooks this morning. Has anyone found?
And WOW those hooks are amazing. Well done to all involved. I thought it was a modern art installation at first
