Tuesday 11 November – The Early Shifts
Its getting warm and the decision for the wetsuit is getting harder. We decided to go early this morning and found the Sun up at 5:45AM.
The Bower beckons with the sun a little lower.
Still lots of activity for so early in the morning.
The gathering begins.
The long march a little quieter than usual.
The 6am crew meets the 6:30 crew
There is not a lot of time spent at the point for your guide.
A swift pace is the order of the day
And into the cove
The inside runners Evan and Melissa lining up for the jump start.
And away
There are some on special delayed starts
And not super clear today
Something special about looking back at the Bower, it might just be that it means you are almost home.
A long walk in today with lots of sand to the point
The early birds, Clare and Sterling
In that order aparently
6:30 crew meets the 7am crew
A few small waves on the way out
A little turbulence below
Jenny’s special 7:15 group
Melissa, John and Sean back onshore after the early foray warming up.
Do a double ? your kidding right…
Especially when Terry shows the scars of tussle with a King Bluebottle
Nasty
Terry assures me he was able to wrap up the entire length of the stingers around his legs to make sure no one else was in danger. Thats one big Bluey. Great job Tez. There will be nominations for a special badge I’m sure.
Mary to the rescue with a potent remedy.
The Bluebottle battle hardened war cabinet debates Terry’s tale and agree its worthy of at least a Tie pin and maybe a badge.
Given I went early, I missed the official stats update but I can assure you it felt like 19 degrees in the water.
Till next time
Brian

Poor Terry, looks nasty ! Brave & honourable job clearing the way for all the other swimmers , usually reserved for the Drinks express ! God bless their wetsuits.
Nice lot of great shots Brian.

Nice blog Brian! Good on Tezza for copping the complete bluebottle so it didn’t get anyone else. How did he get it off? Hope the ‘Ouch’ worked. Nice shots Brian. I love looking back at The Bower on the way back, an excuse to have a rest too. Looking forward to Bluewater tonight!

Beautiful shots, great blog, Brian! Love the style….
Fabulous swimming conditions for those of us who missed the bluebottles ( a few other ‘hits’ too) and one or two other ‘scares’…..

Go Terry, good man – taking one for the team. Most commendable. Great blog Brian. I really liked the ‘changing of the guard’ pics. Even though people go at different times the ‘baton changes’ ie overlaps show we are all one big squad with continuous morning passages of CBT. Terry – what happened to that wretched blue bottle? Once they get you and you get them off they dont live to sting another day (or another swimmer!) do they ? The horror!
i love bubbles lots and lots and lots

Horror Indeed! I took a hit for everyone today! But it was worth it!
I do not know why the blue bottle did not like me!
Thanks to the medical team – Mary , Gavin and Patrick!
Thanks to the blogger for documenting this incident.

Did anyone happen to pick up a silicone cap and pair of goggles by mistake? Left them on the wall….again

I have a new-looking silicone cap and small pair of blue-rim goggles which I’ll give Ian in the morning. Someone picked them up assuming left behind.
Looking good for an early bolder-shelly….. I hope to go…
