Friday 21 October 2016 The Times they are a Changing

October 21, 20168

I am so thrilled that Bob Dylan got the Nobel prize for literature. His lyrics are just great and I discovered his songs through his lyrics at school. There is good music and bad in every year but just compare this body of work to Soulja Boy and form your own view. i note he got the prize because he is outstanding in his field etc. A dad joke I heard this week was an announcement that a scarecrow had won a Nobel prize because it had been out standing the its field. I wish I had walked All Along the Watch Tower this morning and seen the waves around the corner from the point. I would have known that the waves – It Aint Me as a swimmer that suits these conditions. I was thrashed about Like a Rolling Stone.

But these swimmers were leaving as I was arriving and they are smiling having swum – Nick and Jo

Getting ready for the swim

I tried to line up Charl with the pine tree to get some Marg Simpson happening but it did not quite work

Justus and Jim – two of my BB faves

Going to the swim. Looks all right from here. But leaving early i missed the announcement about – around the corner!

These excellent swimmers swam to Shelly and back today in amongst the sea weed, waves, rips and jimbles and looking pretty fantastic all the same

Isabelle championed through to the beach

Greg and Isabelle – NOTE to all the people who duck the blog photos because they have been photographed before: there is not quota!

There are no photos at the point because I was panicked. In January a life saver tried to save me about 10 metres from the beach because he thought I was in trouble when I was sort of trying to swim in the waves and try to enjoy it like others do. Today I was too scared to stop but was wondering where he was.

Instead, Pete showed up and gave me a sound pep talk and that was helpful

Finally at Shelly. No conditions faze this lot at the Eastern suburbs of Shelly

Pete – pep talk

I heard soemthing about A team shenanigans but did not uncover the contro’versy/ con’troversy

Marathon runner/ triathletes and all round great BB swimmers Elaine and Wilf

Jo and Lyndall

Newbie Francesca and John. Francesca you don’t usually need sonar to ‘see’ the bottom. Welcome and come back again!

Roz and friend

After the swim it is time for One More Cup of Coffee (a great Dylan song recently covered by the White Stripes in not a bad cover; I understand that singing is not Bob Dylands strong suit but his lyrics are tops).

Edwina and Belinda and a few others of BB are going to swim in the Bondi to Bronte swim – we are all locked in now! Remember it is time to ramp up your swimming so that you can do the badge swims  In the Summertime.

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.  Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Loved the blog Elizabeth….and relieved you weren’t ‘Knockin’ on heaven’s door’ after your bouncy surf experience.
