Well there may have been a bit of rubbish around near halfway this morning but only joking of course! Our swim is never ever ‘rubbish’… It’s always different, unpredictable, invigorating, sometimes challenging but always awesome and SO worth doing. Around 250 of us enjoyed muggy air making a refreshing swim, 22 degree water and not as wild as it has been. We also had a beautiful bit of pink sky…
This is our gorgeous bay at 6.50am…
A few 7am swimmers ready to go!
Our one newbie today in between his sisters Debbie and Amanda and Mum. All the way from Derbyshire, UK. Well done Ian!
Lovely bumping in to your friends as the Drinks Expressers and 7amers change over. They report a relatively stinger free swim. (Although a bugger sneaked down the front of my cozzie and made me do a bit of a flash looking for a tentacle in the middle of the swim!)
It may be a bit dark in the mornings at the moment but it’s a great feeling swimming towards a glowing sun appearing behind The Bower.
Georgina, one of the amazing artists in our group, with a friend at The Point. (A bit of a Southerly point today sorry JK!)
Mike, Henrietta, Sue, ? and Carole
and lots more happy swimmers!
The always positive, happy, grateful ‘Women of the Wall’!
There have been many Dusky Whaler sightings the last few days, which has made a few of us Fishophiles very happy. Edwina has become quite the ‘Shark Whisperer’. I had keen eyes this morning and did spot two largish ones. (Please comment at bottom of blog if you saw any.)
Admittedly my camera didn’t come out quick enough today but the photos I posted I took last year and the sharks looked very similar!
After my ‘Shark Hunt’ I was late getting back but great to see these awesome ladies falling about in the surf!
After 10 shots I manage to get a photo of everyone with eyes open and not drowning! Maria, Pauline and Deanna x
A few shots of the Groper Roz and I swam with yesterday.
There are some really talented artists in our group. Most of us attended Fiona’s art exhibition recently which was incredible. We also have Roz Beaver who paints the most beautiful coastal scenes and has donated paintings to the B&B. Georgina Hart is another wonderful artist. I’ve attended workshops with all these ladies and they’ve inspired me and guided me to bring some of my photos of favourite marine creatures to life. I’m still only learning but am absolutely loving it!
My first, the Porcupinefish
Shelly before she got the tracker on her back.
Giant Cuttlefish
A funny one!
Silky the lone dolphin
Blue Groper
We intend to have an Art Exhibition (with fun opening night) in May and raise funds for Dr Ray’s hospital benefitting the poorest women of Nepal. Would love any artists (or would be’s like me) to put a few pieces in. Will let you know the date!
2017 Summer Badge Ceremony – Sunday 2nd April
You’ve done the hard yards and got your Summer Badge(s), now come and collect your badges with all the pomp and ceremony the B&B can muster. Bring along $10 for each badge you have earned (correct money appreciated). The venue is the Royal Far West Children’s Home (opposite the beach) on Sunday 2nd April, straight after the regular swim! Everyone is welcome, family, friends and swimmers alike.
A $5 donation will be payable to the RFW at the gate for hosting this event, and …. RFW will provide a FREE breakfast (sausage sandwich and a coffee/tea). Bookings are essential to ensure there is enough food. Book here for Badge Breakfast
All 2017 summer badge qualifiers will be presented with their well earned badge(s), so whether you are getting one personally or you want to enjoy the celebrations of your fellow swimmers, a great morning is guaranteed so come along, soak up the atmosphere and get inspired for the upcoming winter badges…

Your energy and blog are truly inspiring, Lainey! You were everywhere this morning, including everyone and I’m honoured to be in your sign-off pic!!
Especially love the sunrise pic (no 6) and the last groper pic with swimmer and of course, your art-work along side the photos…..
You always bring out the sunshine too:-) And for those of us who swam via the Bower, there was no rubbish either – beautiful swim conditions and best company as always! xxx

Elaine. I think you like the groper the best as all your paintings are great but that one is the best. Love the distance shot of Shelly beach the swimmers look joyous at Shelly

Great blog Lainey. Impressive paintings.
Wind is forecast to turn southerly overnight. That should take care of the rubbish.
Great to see LSA in your sign-off photo. The poor thing hasn’t made the blog in a while..

Great blog Lainey. Love the paintings.
Stunning photos towards Shelly Beach.
I got up-close-and-personal with a Dusky coming back into the beach. I was only in 3 feet of water. Quite a shock. It suddenly appeared beside me. Good to see them back.
