Friday 2 June 2017 Baywatching

02/06/201710

Fresh from the premiere of the Baywatch remake (a show I did not watch in the original as I had not yet come out as an ocean swimmer), I realise that we have our own franchise of that show. Beach, life guards, characters, drama and excitement. Although today there were lots of people here to swim that were not swimming for a winter badge. What is going on? Sounds like a case for Mitch Buchanan  (David Hasselhof’s character) or management.

Polly has come to watch her humans have a swim

Marco and Matt arriving in warm gear

Getting ready for the swim cap

ugg boots sprouting in bags

Spectators today. Swimmers tomorrow

Wendy started swimming the same time as me and we are both still after the badge!

Alana keeping an eye on management keeping an eye on activities

Maria is after her badge and has arranged her routine – with a big holiday – accordingly. I also think of the badge swims when arranging school holidays

My encounters with early swimmers. Claire and some other swimmers were finished when the early swimmers started. it was DAARK

the gap between Justus and martin represents Jim who cannot be in the blog

Sam – your top indicates more activity than just swimming

And at Shelly

good news from the garmins!

What I have been reading this week: the Blackhouse by Peter May set in the New Hebrides Island of Lewis. great!

If you need silicon caps or discount cards as a swimmer, see Ian or John at the desk before your swim!

Great blog Elizabeth. A remnant of the WOWs, with a couple of priveleged men, went on an expedition in search of the motor bike. Thanks to Gayle, it was found and duly admired.

Love your work Elizabeth. Honouring one of the great shows of the 1990s.
    Fun fact:
In 1999, with production costs rising in Los Angeles, the plan was to move the show to Australia and launch Baywatch Down Under. A pilot was filmed but the series was stopped when residents of Avalon put forth strong objections, including potential damage to a fragile ecosystem. Pittwater Council permanently barred all future filming.
    What a shame..

    great blog Elizabeth,
    a great blog as usual.
Unfortunately I missed today’s swim and most days this week.
Can some-one say on which day B & B winter badge weeks start / finish? – is Sat, Sun or Monday a new week?
In the wider world usually Mon is the start of a week,

I’ve been wondering that too, but the graph counting our swims may tell us.

so far to date, at late Saturday afternoon, those people who have swum every day so far in June, ie, 3 swims, they are listed on the beautifully coloured winter badges chart as 3 swims in 1 week. Therefore we can see that the winter badge weeks do not end on Fridays.
Tomorrow and maybe on Monday, we will discover the definitive answer to the question: ‘when does the winter badge week start and finish?’
