Well it didn’t take long, Lisa Boyle took off off on an extended holiday yesterday and already the men have moved in and taken over the wall! Here they all are, gloating about it. It looks as if traitor Di is in on it too!
The morning started off like this, the air was warmer, there were patches of blue in with the cloud, the surf was up but the water was still COLD! Here are the 6.30amers heading out.
There were around 180 swimmers today, 3 newbies and water temp 18.5. Murray aka ‘The Kid’ and his mate head out at 7 and model their new ‘Babe Watch’ swimmers!
These swimmers have already had their dose of ‘Dr Salt’, Simon, Trish, Ken, Jo, Sarah, Midge and Jill.
Dorset might not get on the front page of The Manly Daily today but is still photogenic!
This lady Rozzy, doesn’t just have an amazing fit bod, she is also teacher, interior designer, fundraiser and artist extraordinaire! Come along to our Art Show next Sunday arvo at 4a/3-9 Kenneth Road. All welcome with drinks and music by the B&B ukelele band The Sandy Bottoms! Here’s some of Roz’s beautiful art work below.
Georgina Hart, Nikki Poggi and the very amateur Lainey are also showing some art, mounted photos and cards too.
I haven’t got any photos of marine life today as it was so murky… Below are some of my faves with my paintings next to them…
Back to the swim, it was refreshingly rough, frothy, cold with big surf today. It’s fun taking photos of swimmers being hit by waves!
A few of The Sandy Bottoms are in this photo, Brian, Stevan and trainee Merrilee!
Vinny and Scrappy Scotty usually last in and first out.
Swimmers are grinners at Shelly.
Lovely Lindsay has been swimming with the B&B since 2010 but on Sunday leaves Sydney for 18 months at least. She’ll be missing these swims for sure. Have a great time in the UK Lindsay and family. We’ll miss your happy, smiling face 🙁
Corinne, Charlotte and Gareth. If you have family coming over in January Charlotte has a lovely apartment to rent in central Manly.
I saw this nymph on the rocks!
Big surf!
Lovely Heather was the first lady back today through that surf. A new swimmer, she’s loving her swims but missed her mate Sue today.
Our very naughty but loveable swimmer Ian McNaughty is going in to hospital today for valve surgery. He’ll be in St Vincents for 10 days! We wish him all the best for a full recovery.
We also wish the lovely Nat, Mother of 5 sons, all the best. She’s in hospital after surgery for breast cancer on Monday but as positive as ever and will come and see us as soon as she’s back on her feet.
Wishing you all a happy Christmas time folks. Remember to book in for the B&B christmas party too as tickets are selling fast and it often sells out!
lots of love
Lainey
Summer badges;
As the Summer long distance swimming season approaches, management thought that it would be a good time to clarify what it takes to earn a badge. Three long distance swims are on offer:
· The 6 km swims are held every summer Saturday morning generally starting with the 7 am swim. The first 6 km swim will be on Saturday 2nd December.
· There is a 10 km swim once a month over summer also generally starting with the 7 am swim. Dates for these will be announced in the blog. The first will be on December 16th.
· If these swims are too long for you, you can try a Triple Manly to Shelly swim any day during Summer (distance 3.5 km) from 6.30 or 7 am.
You will earn a badge if you complete these swims and log them in iLog. The system will only record authorised 6K or 10K swims that are logged on the appropriate days. Badges will be presented at the Summer Badge Ceremony in March. If you are unsure of the routes and protocols for these swims, please ask at the desk before you swim. When swimming these longer distances, we request that, for safety reasons, you stay with the group. We also request that you do not swim in dangerous conditions. The quest for a little cloth badge is not worth putting your life at risk.
Enjoy your swimming.
B & B Fundraising Christmas Party
Please book early for the B & B Christmas Party, which will be held on Tuesday 12th December at 6.30 pm in the Moonshine Bar (2nd Floor) at the Steyne Hotel. All swimmers and partners/friends are welcome (no under 18s unfortunately). The theme this year is “Retro Christmas”. So come dressed in your finest Christmas paraphernalia. Lots of fun and dancing are guaranteed, with music again this year by the band, “Gluteus Maximus”, who play two types of music, Rock and Roll! The cost is $15 per head, with all proceeds going to the running costs of the B&B. Book HERE now! Don’t miss out on this fun event, numbers are limited.
Donations wanted
As usual at the Xmas Party, we will be raising money for the Royal Far West as well as for B&B. This year RFW have some amazing prizes which will be auctioned on the night, including fantastic accommodation packages. We would also be grateful to have additional prizes to be auctioned, so if you have something special that you are happy to donate for the auction, please contact Ian (ugoboyo@gmail.com).

Don’t worry Lisa, it was a very short lived coup.. Richard reckoned he had squatters rights and tried to charge us rent. Brian and Danny thought it was too far away from their coffee. That, with the realisation of what retribution would be wrought upon us by the militant WOWs on your return, we all slinked off home and promised to never talk of it again..

Totally agree Anne. While our “Wall Queen” is on a much deserved holiday, management is in the capable hands of Di. Lovely blog and photos Lainey. Thank you for the update on Nat. Nat, we are all thinking of you and behind you on this journey.

Thanks Lainey. Farewell Lindsay, sorry to see you go…but I’m laying claim to your spot (#77 in the Challenge) so it’s not all bad – thanks!
Cheryl doesn’t seem to be putting up much resistance on the wall there either.

I was trying to get them off the wall by enticing them back in – I was looking for a swim buddy ( all turned me down)! Story of my life….

Great blog Lainey. Lisa’s instructions from the airport were to ‘hold the fort/ wall’ until she got back. We’ll miss our chief hugmeister.
