Thursday 18 January: Happy birthday Bryon, welcome back Ian and where’s Lips?

18/01/20187

After some rough days and interesting surf, it was a welcome relief this morning to see things a little flatter and getting back to normal.  The surfers in our corner always makes me a little nervous and there was quite a rip near the wall, but all in all order is slowly being restored.

But the biggest question doing the rounds at Shelly Beach was where’s Lips?

Seems our resident photo bomber stood up these lovely ladies and despite a SES search, help from the Lifeguards and checking under the nearby rocks Lips was nowhere to be seen.

It was the boss’s first day back today after his holiday sunning himself at Old Bar – seems he felt he had to get back to whip us all back into line – welcome back Ian.

Which means Sean’s back to his more usual role – we love you Sean and appreciate your contribution as well.

Ollie, Nicky Amanda and Jenny from the Manly Multilingual Toastmasters were all swimming today (it was Nicky’s first swim with us).  They meet on the first Wednesday of the month at St Mary’s Church in Manly.

Lainey with her friend who was a regular swimmer before moving overseas, but was back swimming with us this morning.

Everyone was quite happy about the conditions settling down a little, even if the water was quite murky so nothing much to see.

Champion fish Sue back from the 6.30 swim and ready for the 7am group.

Arguably the nicest man in Manly, Derek, surrounded by his mates.

The group Lips had waiting for him at Shelly.

Sorry I can’t remember his number, the bloke on the right had his last swim with us for some time as he is off to study in Spain.

On a nicer note we celebrated Bryon’s birthday with the usual obligatory splash at Shelly and he had the honour of doing the Let’s Go!!!!

Meanwhile at Bluewater, it seems some B&B members get the extra special attention – I’m looking at you Patrick D!!!

All in all another beautiful morning, no fish to spot but just great to be in the ocean and swimming,  Till next time

Management notices

Stats
Temperature:      21.1 degrees
Newbies:              9
Total swimmers:   238

Summer 10km swim
The proposed day for the next 10km swim is Saturday 10 February at 7a,.  Swimmers are required to bring their own food/drink requirements which can be left at Manly.  The swim is dependent on suitable ocean/weather conditions.  Remember to be sensible as no badge is worth putting yourself and others in danger.

Volunteers Needed
The upcoming Cole Classic is coming to Manly and the surf club wishes to apply as many Bronze Medallion qualified lifesavers as they can to water safety. Those interested and able to help out with the running of this years event – if you can donate any time to help with beach side activities such as bag control, registrations, lost children etc.

Can you please email our own Jim Stackpool who will coordinate with club? email Jim – jjs@scat.com.au or talk to him during the swim.

Ask at the desk to point out Jim if you do not know him.

Shelly Beach Clean & Snorkel
Clear Tides is a non-profit organisation that was established in 2017 by Marine biology student, bold and beautiful swimmer and cabbage tree bay snorkel instructor – Jessica Brading. The mission of the organisation is to spread our love and respect for the ocean, environment and marine animals.

On Sunday 21st January, Clear Tides is holding their first ever event – SHELLY BEACH CLEAN AND SNORKEL!

Head on over to Shelly beach after your morning swim and help Jess and her team clean up our beloved bay and then head out for a snorkel after (or another swim if your game). If thats not enough incentive… theres free brunch!

Invite your friends and family – lets team up and support local organisations in maintaining our beautiful cabbage tree bay.

My sincere apologies for not showing up this morning. I intend to compensate with a Boulderdash tomorrow.

It looks like it was Benny having his last swim, Leisa’s son. And Patrick D deserves a special breakfast- definitely one of the nicest blokes without asking for the title 😉👍😍
