Hump day hurdles

04/07/20187

Hi all, I’m blogging for Elaine today who’s working. A dry blog while I’m still recovering from colds and flu etc.

i had no idea what to expect today as I arrived but the surf was huge!! Lots of sets rolling in one after the other with little break in between. Started with a pretty sunrise naturally and a group started at the point. Watching the surf but also the brave swimmers who entered at manly beach and exited through the surf and current .

These three from the A team joined me and plotted their swim route in and out of surf. Most people walked to half way and even then battled waves crashing on steps and rocks.

Richard came along after his early swim and took a great shot of the waves. He’s famous for accidentally swimming into a pod of dolphins while returning to manly beach. Watched by a dozen people on shore .

We had two birthdays today- Simon Fraser , seen here with swim buddy Fiona , and nick Howard who swam with friends cam, James and Steven . Happy birthday Simon and Nick!

Now I have a collection of people coming and going from half way –

Somewhere here you can see pink caps amongst the froth making their way to the point

Suzy has been swimming for one year today, happy anniversary suze

Nat on holidays in Paris

Beanie twins

Elaine’s cartoon about winter swimming

Kit and the sun lighting up manly

Stats for today- temperature was 17.2, total of 170 swimmers and one newbie. Dinner is next week, on Tuesday as always, come and listen to four swimmers talk about the sailing expedition starting next Wednesday. See yesterday’s blog for the link to book.

I think my phone is trying to die so I’m signing off here, edwina

Excellent blog Edwina. Thanks for blogging. We still need more people to cover blogging on Wednesday’s if anyone can help. You didn’t mention England’s win this morning but it is a swim blog I suppose! Where does anyone reckon the arrow would go on the Nippleometre water temp chart today?

Thanks Shelley, somebody else said exactly the same thing. Numerous people said it was the worst surf they returned through.

Great blog Ed. I love all the photos of swimmers at half way. Everyone appears up for the challenge of making it to Shelly which ever way they could. Massive surf today! Quite wild!
