Just as the sun completes its morning ritual of bursting into the sky, so too do we complete ours which set us up for the day. Whether that be getting out on the same side of the bed each morning, (unless you’ve had a rough night’s sleep and find yourself upside down), exercise first thing or coffee over looking the water, most of us know what works for us to put us in a positive frame of mind.
Lainey and Robyn’s ritual is to get up in the dark and jog with the Manly Beach Running Group. I bumped into them around 6.30 expecting them to take off on their jog any minute. They then announced that they had just finished a 50 minute jog to Curl Curl – a warm up for the swim!
Then there’s the early morning booty camp ritual overseen by man’s best friend.
And the sharing of warm welcomes and happy greetings rituals.
And the ritual of just stopping and cherishing those few precious moments together before the onslaught of a busy day. (Thanks Jillian for giving me the idea for today’s blog and apologies for interrupting your quiet time and demanding photos! 🙂 )
The morning ritual that brings us all together at 7am (or earlier – I heard the 5.30am starters were surrounded by phosphorescence) is the magnificent 1.5 km swim in this perfect piece of paradise. The conditions this morning were great and while clarity wasn’t perfect, it was better than yesterday which was cloudy from the run off of the fire.
There were some rogue waves this morning but nothing that BnBers couldn’t handle!
At Shelly I spotted Craig and Tony practising their swim stroke!
Then Craig and Tony were kind enough to share their excellent techniques with David and Lisa before all four shot off back to Manly.
Shelley, JK, Fiona and Gemma included a touch of synchronised swimming practice in their morning ritual this morning. Don’t give up your day jobs ladies and gent! (Did I just say that??).
It was great to see the newly planted crayweed today planted by the Operation Crayweed team on the weekend! This is going to attract crayfish and a whole plethora of other sea life to the area! Thanks a million to Dorset and Jenny and all the BnB volunteers! The crayweed photo didn’t come out so here is one of fish instead!
Back on shore and boys will be boys!
Girls will be girls.
And horses will be horses. Oh hang on, that’s Sir Lawrence the dog.
And the crew enjoying the sun!

The Monthly Dinner– 9th April 2019 – SOLD OUT!!!
The Next B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 9th April at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. Our guest on the night will be Dr Amy Smoothey, who is a fisheries scientist in the government’s Shark Research Group. Amy’s shark research will provide scientific-based guidelines for minimising the risk of shark bites within estuaries such as Sydney Harbour, as well as, some of the necessary information to ensure species of sharks in NSW are effectively managed in an ecologically sustainable way. In her role, Amy is also responsible for investigating the movements of Bull Sharks in NSW waters, shark bites, community engagement and education and is involved in various aspects of the new $16 Million NSW Shark Management Strategy.
Babewatch are holding their annual 6 hr swim next Sunday 7th April and are asking us to get behind their fundraising efforts for 180, a Northern Beaches group set up by young people to address the growing issue of anxiety and depression within our youth.
They will be starting with us at 7 am and having a team of swimmers in the water until 1 pm.
They will also be running a cake stall (and would appreciate donations of goodies to sell by all you wonderful bakers) and if you’d like to relax and de-stress – stop by the stand and get a massage from one of the qualified physiotherapists who are part of Babewatch.
For more information, speak to Murray Colderick or Ali Smith or Mikaila Beaver.
Let’s get behind this wonderful bunch of young people and help them achieve their goal of raising $4,000!

Thanks Lucy! Shelley is showing her true colours again!
And if I might just bring this up:
The swimmer with the precise magnetic compass who abused another swimmer this morning for not swimming straight (aka, “you are in my way!”) surely takes this season’s ignoble badge. Well two badges actually, one for the poorest swimming etiquette and the other for an inability to perform a standard swimming manoeuvre. Shame!

Lucy I appreciate your honesty and I won’t give up my day job but might I just say the synchronised swimming world will be all the poorer for my absence.
And yes Inge, glad you brought it up…swimming over others and/or abusing them for being in your way is very uncool. Go swim in a pool where there are plenty of straight lines to follow if that’s your bag. The ocean is a very fluid environment!

What a shame people are being rude. Great morning by the looks of it otherwise.
