It is good to feel connected to something or someone. When I meet a person and find out they swim, I immediately am more interested in knowing more about them because they like swimming. Is there a lovelier sight than a swimmer across Cabbage Tree Bay with a pink cap? Hard to imagine what it would be. Today there were weather clouds above and sea lice clouds below. The visibility was vastly improved compared to the last few weeks and the temperature was lovely
Following a great tip from Tim Pickles I spoke to Peter Pickle who visits annually to swim with BB. He has done so for more than 10 years when, as he said, there were far fewer swimmers. He swims with the early group at 6.30 am and he also has family in Sydney to visit. The rest of the time he lives in Sweden having met his partner in a kibbutz in Israel (where by the way I have seen there are some enthusiastic open water swimmers; see the “Did you Swim Today facebook page for photos). Peter wisely lives not at Ystad where the Wallander series of novels by Mankell are set but near the setting for the film location for the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Gnesta (the book’s setting of Hedestad does not exist. ). How enjoyable to swim in the sea and also join family to swim. During this visit he has encountered a range of conditions. That is a topic for endless discussion. I can never tire.
Here is the early crew under cover before going out into the rain. There was a group even earlier still and they had lights on their caps because it was dark in the rain. Yikes
happy birthday Jon!
Lots of people including newbies arrived and got ready for a 7 am start:
Including Gino who is swimming less frequently than before at Manly but still swimming. Good stuff!
And newbies. Welcome
Kevan is from the UK and is wearing fluoro lime to stand out. He is from industrious Macnhester, a city that is so hard working it has a worker bee for its logo. He has come to visit Manly to meet his beautiful new granddaughter. Congratulations. And, being English he is also swimming. It was a bit hot for him but he was quite familiar with the rain. Also in the photo is the truly delightful Jeremy also visiting from the UK. Regulars John and Justus kindly posed to balance out the fluoro

Some very tall early swimmers return before we even set off. They reported it was a great swim

Evidence of the improving visibility, Roz saw a cuttle fish and Anne got a great shot which she kindly shared

The Monthly Dinner – 10th March 2020 – Wine Tasting
The next B&B monthly dinner will be held on Tuesday 10th March at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. Special guest, David Webster, will present the range of Bold and Beautiful wines especially for B&B members and their friends. The Bold and Beautiful wines were born out of the idea of creating a village wine for Manly. The wines comprise two wines made in the Hunter Valley by rising star James Becker of M&J Becker Wines. The red, “The Beautiful”, is a Shiraz Viognier blend made in a very light style perfect for summer drinking. The white, “The Bold”, is 100% Chardonnay made in a fruit forward style with strong Chardonnay flavours but low oak usage. Once you have tasted the wines, you can purchase bottles through the restaurant to enjoy over dinner.
Please book early for this event as it is sure to be popular. The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each (please note, NO BYO). Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential. To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please book at www.boldandbeautifulmanly.com.au/bb-bluewater-monthly-dinner.html .
HAVE YOUR SAY!!
DPI has placed its Shark Management Strategy community survey on public release. Here is a link to the survey: https://www.
Through the Strategy, DPI has trialled a series of shark management/mitigation methods at a number of NSW ocean beaches. The trials aim to increase protection of beachgoers, while minimising harm to sharks and other marine animals. DPI is interested in obtaining the views of the community regarding their support and preferences for shark mitigation at NSW ocean beaches.
