From cafe to coast

13/01/20260

The day began at Manly Point Café, coffee in hand, warm cup against my palms, the aroma wrapping me like a morning hug.

The familiar faces that greet me here create the absolute moment of joy. This moment, with the crew at Manly Point Café and the familiar early risers, is one of those moments in the day that makes my day just right. There’s something about this ritual that seems to set the rhythm of the day.

The usual suspects getting coffee at 6am.

Once we step toward the water, the familiar chatter begins. Eyes turn to the ramp, is it fully covered by the King Tide, or just half-submerged? Can we walk the whole way, or do we have to jump into the unknown?

The ramp

How clear is the water, what’s the temperature, and has anyone ventured in with a report back?

Then the waves…how are they breaking today? Perfect for catching, ideal for swimming, or better for surfing?

These are the little details, the common topics swimmers trade each morning, small but important signposts that shape the experience before we even hit the water.

Manly beach

This morning, I decided to walk to Queenscliff and back. It’s been a while since I’ve done a beach walk, and what a beach to walk along. The sand stretches endlessly, the water shimmers with the morning light, and every step feels like reconnecting…with the ocean, with the rhythm of the waves, and with a slower, calmer part of myself.

I then went in for a bob, navigating my way through the seaweed and the waves. Big waves and seaweed aren’t my favorite, but today it was one I had to endure. I needed to get in, wet my hair as its my first day back into the office and I needed to start my day right.

There’s nothing quite like putting your head under the water and feeling the salt on your skin. It’s no longer a want, it’s a need. A need for each day.

Thanks Phil for capturing us
