The approaching warm weather lifts the mood, the longer days bringing more opportunities to socialise outdoors, feel the sun’s golden rays on our skin, get to the beach and enjoy all it brings.
These wows and womwmen enjoying pre/post swim sunshine, in progressively fewer layers of clothing. Not a puffer jacket to be seen apart from on Mr Dennett who is not blessed with subcutateous insulation. Some had to be dragged into the photo while others sprinted to be included.
Unfortunately it can also bring antisocial behaviour, endangering our aquatic sanctuary and its precious residents. There are repeat offenders such as this boat, the owners disrgarding regulations, anchoring in water shallower than 8 metres and dragging anchor chains across the sea grass at great risk to resident turtles as well as octopuses (yes it’s the correct term, the word is from Greek and not Latin), rays and the other sealife who congregate and feed there. This is not a composite photo and was taken yesterday by regular freediver Peter.Hopefully this turtle was not harmed.
This yacht today may have been closer than the vigilantes among us might like but appeared to be following the location and depth regulations
Meanwhile, this is definitely Gary the Groper at the Point, evidenced by the split fin. He seemed to be feeling a bit frisky today, chasing a comely female, far away from his regular haunt of the boulders. I was no competition for that silver spunkrat and he had no patience for me. He’s a big boy (well not a boy – at least 30 years old, some say closer to 50) and I can’t imagine that he’d have much competition from other males.Size, longevity and good looks count for much in the Groperverse.
Here are some other regular residents, posing attractively
Not sure what kind of fish this is.
Conditions today were good, but not as good as yesterday, so here are some shots from then
This Cuttlefish looks pretty good but early signs of senescence (that word again!) were evident,
while this one is further along the track. Hopefully they have both contributed to the ongoing lineage.
I am pretty sure there are no current messages from Management. The Badge ceremony is done and dusted, and the Tonga whale season is all but over, with advance parties heading home to Antarctica already visible out to sea.
