22/12/2011 – Sunrise Heaven

December 22, 201123

81+ Bold & Beautiful swimmers with nearly as many at brekkie.  What a great morning !! 🙂

Another sunrise sensation captured superbly on camera by Gaetan this morning.  They are magnificent shots Gaetan, I thought I had a favourite until I viewed them on the big screen and now I just can’t decide they are all outstanding.  Thanks heaps for sharing them with us !!

To see a larger version of these photos please click on each one individually and that will bring up a larger image for you.  Well worth doing.

Miles came down for the 5.25 start to Freshie but couldn’t find his playmates… ?  Seeing as though he doesn’t get a heroes write up for going solo (have I made up for that yet ? ;-)) he thought he might aswell wait to swim to Queensie and back at 5.50 with Brendan 😉  It must have been a beautiful swim too.  The ocean is fantastic at the moment, so calm, peaceful and finally warming up !!   Nor-easterly winds please stay away.

The Shelly swim was gorgeous and we were joined by 8 new swimmers and Vanessa saw a friendly healthy shark off the point.

We’re so close to that 2000 mark guys – only 16 new swimmers to go !!!  Who’s it going to be ???

If these conditions stay as they are it should be perfect for a Bolderdash tomorrow morning; 5.50am to Queensie and back just in time for the 7am Shelly swim.

Also hopefully it will last for our summer badge swim on Saturday morning where you can chose the 6 or 10km swim continuing on from the 7am swim to Shelly.  Everyone’s welcome with whatever equipment you like 🙂

There are still a few B&B calendars left, but they are going fast so if you would like one please don’t delay as there are only limited numbers.  You can get one from me after any morning swim or online here were we can post it to any address you like for you if you choose.

Tim’s fact of the day: “There are more than 25,000 islands in the Pacific Ocean, the number being more than count of islands in the rest four oceans.”

How about the below for a winter adventure swim ??  It is apparently an actual swim of some swimming people who Stephen Coulter is networked with in New Jersey… !

Plus a photo from yesterday’s Brisbane newspaper taken in China of a man diving from a frozen waterfall into icy water !  No thank you !

Water Temperature 21.7

Air Temperature 1.0
Sunrise 5.41am
Sunset 8.06pm
High Tide: 6.42am
Low Tide: 1.25pm

Big apologies to Miles; I was the instigator of the 525 swim but was quite unwell last night and didn’t sleep much. I didn’t think anyone would check the blog at 5am…

ahaha I woke up at 5:00 and received SMS from Cae, Claire and James saying they were not going.
I went there and just sat on the wall about 50m away from Surf Club, but I missed you Miles. So then I decided to go for a walk to North Steyne to look at the sun rise.
The sea was so flat, must have been a great swim. Saw a few blueys near North Steyne and Michel said there were plenty at Curl-Curl.
James is up for a 5.25 tomorrow, I’ll join, but me may have to go to the harbour.

I saw a patch of about 6 or 7 stingrays on the way out from Manly, and 2 more on the way back. Always nice to see…

I’m sorry you missed me Gaetan. I missed you too, but I don’t think it would work anyway. I’m married, and I think you might be French or something 🙂
Yes Jules I have forgiven you for your ‘blog-negligence’ for now at least. I’m not asking for a special ‘Miles segment’ every day or even every week, but, you know, feelings are feelings and how much does it cost to show you care? (Cake helps with the healing process.)
And BTW what is a ‘healthy shark’? I didn’t know they got sick, I thought they were either ruthless efficient killers or put in soup. Does Vanessa have a photo of this creature? Is this the same Vanessa who has a dog twice her size? Not a great judge of animals I’d say.

How were the stingrays looking Jono? Pretty good or a bit peeky?

Gaetan – just want to say your pics have been great this week – I will try to get up in time to see the sunrise for myself tomorrow morning!

“Healthy” is a euphemism for LARGE, Miles. Do-do, do-do, do-do… (that’s the sound healthy sharks make as they approach juicy swimmers).
And puh-lease don’t bag Vanessa’s Billy the Sheep, as he’s outstandingly intelligent, at least according to Ness. You can tell by the sheepish look in his eyes. No, really. Super smart. Ness has him decorating the Christmas tree as we speak, and then he’s on to decking the halls. Eh, Ness? xx

Agree Jules I cannot decide which of Gaetan’s sunrise shots is the best – they all are!!
The water was the most inviting it has been for a while – it was a lovely swim ….except the near-kick in the head from the BREAST stroker…as in swimming style not a creepy pervert!! heheehehe

Gaetan, blueys…really??? It was so flat out there you could have seen them in time to swim around them.
If you wondered why Miles was shivering so much at 7am, it was because he’d just spent an hour swimming with me, which is only half pace for him!
An early shout for the “distance demons” this Saturday. Ben and I are going in at 5.45 to do a sneaky 3kms before the 10km starts at 7am. This is it folks, over the top!

What’s all this precious carry on about breast strokers! They’re people too you know.

I like swimming with you Brendan, you swim in a straight line and you take the time to point out landmarks. But yes, I might have got more insulation from one of the cuddly breaststroke-ees Michael has been fantasizing about.

Defending breast stokers Michael, can only mean one thing…!! ;-D

If you are there at 515 tomorrow, you will not be missed! If sea conditions are suitable, then we’ll go at 525 which will allow us time for some halftime 50m sprints at Freshie and a 625 merge with the Bolderdashers on their turnaround. Great shots from this morning, Gaetan. Lucky you were on the beach to get those surfbreak shots, instead of in the water. I feel better now about having piked this morning, seeing as it was a contributing factor towards getting you and your camera in the right position!!!

Brendan, why not make it 5:25 and do a cheeky 4.5km?
