21/10/2011 – Highs and Lows

October 21, 201111

79 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

8 people swam early and enjoyed a bumpy trip to Queenscliff and back, Richard Agius certainly looks very happy relaxing up at Queenscliff headland 🙂

5 people swam an early lap to Shelly and back and were rewarded with a large ray at the point and a turtle on the way back in !!

There was a decent surf rolling in and a fair bit of swell making for an entertaining swim this morning.  A few people enjoyed the half way beach option, we are sooo lucky that we have this option available to us so we can all still enjoy a swim regardless of the conditions.

There’s quite a trough just off Manly Beach too; one second your standing on the beach, next thing your up to your shoulders in water, then you’re in knee deep water again, all before you’ve even got your goggles on.

Our clean up swim was very worth while, lots of rubbish was gathered up and stored in unique places as we swam over and put in the bin liner that Robin Turner kindly carried over for us.

The first four dramatic photos are from James Goins, they’re terrific as usual James, thank you !

Sadly there were two dead bloated ‘3 barred porcupine fish’ floating half way across as you can see from one of the photos.  I wonder why, do they die at this time of year or is something in the water that is toxic to them ??

Tim’s fact of the day: “Fish have a balloon inside their body to help
them float.”

Happy Birthday to David Brocherie today !  A lovely photo of the birthday boy looking very happy to be starting his special day with a swim.

Water Temperature 18.9 degrees.
Air Temperature 17 degrees.
Sunrise 6.07am.
Sunset 7.13pm.
Low Tide: 9.25am.
High Tide: 3.52pm.

Lovely shorter swim – and I agree Julie, I love having that option of half way – I was not in ‘mood’ for waves this morning!
I wonder if Mr Porcupine Fish ate an balloon disguised as a blue bottle
    ;-(
Job going at Avoka (here in Manly!!) for a Trainer/Programmer with teaching skills – Check it out on SEEK. Great Company to work for and you can still do your morning swim and be on time for work!

Beautiful photos of the sunrise, kinda wish I was there. Nice to have Little Cub swimming this morning; we were ‘scaredy cats’, so we swam from halfway. Hey Sarah Abbott, you were the ultimate warrior woman this morning. RESPECT!!!
Nice looking car Iain, I noticed it in Manly earlier on in the week.
Jules, who was the ‘cutie pie’ you were cradling this morning?

Thx Little Tiger, I only copped a dozen or so huge waves, being the Slow Coach I am. I think Little Cub and I should be swapping places. I remember on our last visit she was bemoaning the lack of waves and easy run. Then what happens when they begin to arrive? She follows you in at halfway!!
But then, Little Cub, aka Model Amy, you’d done the paper round already and still had to manoeuvre her way through a G12 school day, so RESPECT all round!!
I agree with Lesley & Jules, it’s great to have options! Glad to have worked out who you are LT:-) Don’t hold your breath waiting for my badges to sew on either:-))

    Shock!
I clicked on the Attendance Graph to the left (work procrastination, yes) and to my utter shock and disbelief I wasn’t showing. But but but I did swim this morning. Eh? And I’m pretty sure I ticked to..?

The beautiful little boy was Jay Jay; Bernie and Jamie Moylan’s gorgeous little bundle of joy. Bernie is hoping to swim this weekend too so Jay Jay might make an appearance at coffee 🙂

It sure was nice to have Amy back in the water with us this morning !! It’s been a long time coming, but well worth the wait. Welcome back Amy 🙂

    Ooops. My bad.
This is what old age does to you, or at least to me. Looks like that David Brocherie is still a young boy, though. Great photo! And happy birthday again, David.
