21/06/2012 – Bumper Winter Solstice Swim

21/06/201219

Over 120 Bold & Beautiful swimmers enjoyed some pure fresh fun.

How’s this for a magical winter solstice morning !

It was a bumper swim suitably rewarded with a bumper sticker designed by Matt and sponsored by both Matt and myself.  Thank you Matt for making the winter solstice swim that extra bit special and thank you to everyone who came down and embraced the morning 🙂 xx

4 swimmers also enjoyed the pre-dawn lap into Shelly and 5 enjoyed a double afterwards.  There were also a few swimmers out there early celebrating the solstice sunrise in true nudie style… so I hear…  Here’s some photographic evidence from Gaetan 😉

The sun was creating a gorgeous golden glow on everyone’s beaming smiles this morning… inspiring a bit of lovin’ too… take another look at this photo… 🙂

It was a beautiful sun drenched swim with a break in the clouds being just enough for the sun to beam through on us.

There was plenty of neoprene blankets of all designs and thicknesses protecting some swimmers from the elements but there were also still plenty of “fleshbots” (to quote Fifi) embracing the rawness of the true fresh winter’s morning.

That’s another swim completed, pretty happy about that !!

Nick TB’s looking pretty damn good in his new pinks too…

Which is more than can be said for these poor little tootsies…

All of which was soon forgotten with some of James’ divine home made pecan pie kindly shared at brekkie !!  Thank you James you’re a true gem xx

Stephen was disappointed to be interstate for business today but joined in by doing some laps with us in spirit at 7am in a pool in Melbourne

Check out Sprout Daily too, as Murray captured up glowing as we entered the water this morning 🙂

Now this is amazing !!!  357 people have swum at least once in winter so far meaning they are also currently on target for their 2012 winter badge !!  To qualify you only need to swim 20 times over a minimum of 7 different weeks and you have 71 days and 11 weeks of winter still left to go.  Complete all of your qualifying swims without a wetsuit and get your ‘winter without wetsuit’ badge too. Check out the list of who’s who in the winter zoo here

Happy birthday to Bob Hughes, Gillian Chapman, Penny Verdich and Pocket Rath today !! 🙂

What a great winter solstice swim. Could only have been a little nicer with a bit more sun.
Well done to Jenny H for doing a second lap in that cold water and also James L who did it sans wettie and walked around afterwards in bare feet!!

PS. I should also mention that Jonny S and David B were also there for the second lap. It turned out to be quite a crowd.

FAB swim, great people, beautiful morning, amazing pecan pie, lots of laughs (Elaine de J!!! you know why!!!) and a stylish B&B bumper sticker to boot…what’s not to love about all of this?!
HUGE THANKS JULES for instigating and maintaining this GREAT institution…long may you rule as queen B&B! And also to Michael for all that you do, not least, letting us know how the water temperature is behaving. Also a shout out this AM to the brave B&B Lesley, for her willingness to take on the jimbles again this morning after the war injuries she received yesterday! Yeah okay okay…i’ll leave some space for someone else now…just a bit too much love in the air…

    Great Bumper Sticker – thanks.
And thanks to whoever found my bight orange earplug. I lost it putting my goggles on, and was super stoked to get it back at the end of the swim.
    Thanks,
    Jono.

Lesely I think I still have a small amount of unstung flesh to will be down in the morning to fill them in….Mondays early crop are nicely blistering.
Funnily enough I have been pinged on the nose twice now and welts have failed to materialise. i guess this says I have a large, tough snout….all my others have puffed up impressively.
Not quite as bad as your neck though!

May I just say that the “elite” swimmers look lovely, Gab, so pretty even in goggles and hat!

…cant believe that even with my wetsuit on, a Jimble managed ot get my chin and then I put my hand in one !!!! Swam inot them on the way back around the point and it was the first time I realy studied them too – they’re were loads! Luckily no marks left by them this time!

Had a wonderful solstice swim. Thanks to all and thanks for the sticker. Swam my first lap of four in the double on the outside track and across the bower reef where there were no jimbles. Got lit up on each subsequent lap closer to the shoreline. Still had the best time.
