18/12/2011 – Christmas Adventure Swim

December 18, 201113

111 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

We had our annual Christmas Adventure Swim this morning and a lot of fun it was too !!

We enjoyed the ‘plan b’ route due to South Curly being covered in blue bottles yesterday afternoon.  So we walked down Ashburner St and set off in idealic surrounds between all the moored boats.

It was a beautifully calm and picturesque swim as we hugged the foreshore all the way out to the toilet roll building off the end of Addison Road where we stopped to re-group before continuing around the point into Little Manly Beach.  A quick stop for a group photo before some people walked back and the rest of us swam back to our well earned brekkie at Manly Wine.

It really was a stunning swim, with quite clear water, after all it doesn’t get much more beautiful than swimming along with the Manly Ferry as your backdrop.

Thank you very much to Cathie Coleman, Robert Grozier, Tim Holloway and Yasmin Maksut for escorting us on craft, to Greg Poole who escorted the ocean adventurers and to James Ley who was chief bag watcher.

To view more photos including some from Stephen Coulter please go to the website or click here

For those of you who are keen to still experience the South Curly swim we will reschedule for sometime early Jan, so please keep an eye on the blog so you don’t miss out.

While we enjoyed our harbour delights 18 swimmers set off towards South Curl Curl with 8 swimmers completing the distance along with a few blue bottle stings.  We’ll play that up to reassure ourselves that we made a good call with our re-route 😉

A couple of swimmers also enjoyed a regular swim to Shelly and back and 5 of our distance daemon swimmers enjoyed a double lap of the Harbour Adventure swim setting off at ~5.30am this morning.

A magic morning all up, thanks to you all !!

A big congratulations to Alyson Payne who swam with us this morning and is getting married this afternoon !! 🙂

Happy Birthday and Bon Voyage to Ragnill Stallvik today !!

Please feel free to pop into the Sable Bar (upstairs at the Manly Pacific) this afternoon from 5pm to have a Christmas drink with your fellow friendly swimmers.  Everyone is welcome so please don’t be shy.

Tim’s fact of the day: “Pacific Ocean covers about 46% of the Earth’s water surface and about 32% of its total surface area.”

Things coming up for you to look forward to:

6km Summer badge swim every Saturday morning during summer, continuing on from the regular 7am swim.

Saturday 24th December our first 10km badge swim for the season which will continue on from the regular 7am Shelly swim.

Christmas Day 7am (regular Shelly return) Swim followed by a BYO shared BBQ brekkie for anyone who would like to join us straight after the swim at Shelly Beach.  Friends and family all welcome, the more the merrier 🙂

Tuesday 27th December, we celebrate Bold & Beautiful’s 3rd birthday !!  So if anyone would like to bring a cake to brekkie that morning it’s the perfect excuse 😉

Happy Birthday & farewell Ragnill. You’re a ‘Little ray of Sunshine’, will miss you heaps.
Enjoyed the Harbour swim, stuck close to the rocks & tried to follow James Goins (certain to get a nice scenic swim).
Fabulous fun @ Manly Wine, Congratulations to the ‘lovely, calm, relaxed looking bride-to-be, getting married today. WOW!!!
I’m sure Robin T will bake some delightful cakes for the B&B birthday. Hey Robin, bake from scratch and make a mess. Must get back to my own baking, ‘Cold Tea Cake’, one of the best recipes EVER, thanks Beryl.

Thanks for the encouragement Little Tiger.
Breaking out into a cold sweat at the prospect of it though. I might have actually come through but I know you will be away on your Christmas holiday so I probably should wait until you are back for my first effort. It just wouldn’t be right if you missed it!

Robin, why don’t you use us as guinea pigs for your first effort, so the second effort when Little Tiger is back will be perfect 🙂
Really enjoyed the harbour swim this morning!

What a great swim this morning. I always feel a little reticent about the harbour, but in retrospect I always thoroughly enjoy it.

James and I are setting off for Freshie at 525 tomorrow morning if anyone is interested… I suspect Gaetan wil also join us.
We will meet Bolderdashians up at the Pink Heart at 625 for the swim back.
Be there or be… in bed!

Same here Michael, I never really feel 100% comfortable because of stories people tell about swimming in the harbour….and then once we are there we certainly enjoy the quiet sea and nice views!

It’s looking choppy out there are you giving it a miss tomorrow Jules? Or will I have to swim with bigboys in the harbour.

If these pesky blue bottles are still enforcing their presence on us in the morning we will definitely go to the harbour Neil, so you can join both the big boys and us there 🙂
If that’s where we end up the Bolderdash will be to Little Manly and back and the 7am swim will be to the toilet roll building and back.

The beach and Shelly are awash with bluebottles!!! I have a feeling it will be harbour for all of us tomorrow.
