15/07/2011 – Pecan Friday & Jam Donuts

July 15, 201117

62 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

6 people did the early swim in sub arctic conditions this morning, there was a reasonable amount of cloud and an icy wind. Stephen Coulter is proud of himself having completed double swims 7 days in a row – well done Stephen.

The water was lovely though with a few unusual non stingy jellies around that looked like jam donuts…

There was also a whiting close into shore off the point that had a hair band or a bangle around it’s gills, it could still swim thankfully but Dave from Eco Divers is going to go in later and try to remove the band.

James Goins was the resident photographer and chef today ! James cooked pecan pie for our breakfast in memory of his Dad’s birthday, very lovely it was too, thank you James, but i think you better make three of them next time 🙂

Fabulous photos too, including a lovely photo of Maxine Peacock-Smith in flash
and yes that is Attracta Wolohan’s head swimming back from Shelley, thanks James !

And also warm welcome back to Anna and Tomas Alvsdotter we have missed you.

If anyone left their snorkel, mask, flippers and pink cap in the men’s public changing room this morning please let us know, Ian Forster has taken them home and he’ll brung them tomorrow morning.

No early swim tomorrow. If anyone is keen for a double lap we can continue it on after our regular 7am swim 🙂

Water Temperature 18.2 degrees.
Air Temperature 6.5 degrees.
Sunrise 6.58am.
Sunset 5.04pm.
High Tide: 8.16am.
Low Tide: 1.50pm.

James thanks heaps. Your Pecan Pie as always was superb!!! Its a great way to remember your dad too.
BTW who said those donuts didn’t sting?? I can verify that something certainly did!! Did anyone else get clipped??
To finish, I thought it was flaming freezing this morning. I noticed both Salt motion and Sprout made similar comments. Like the coldest day they could ever remember.

A number of people asked me this morning for the pecan pie recipe. I have printed out a few copies and will carry them with me to swims for the next few days. I would love to try out someone else’s version. Any takers?

That’s a stingy-lookin jellyfish!! Thank God I wore a wetsuit!! Was that what stung you on the ‘tit’ Michael-ex CI?? ;-D
I saw a big bag of what looked to be dog poo as I was coming back in – I will try and get it tomorrow – was a bit nervous incase something else was in it?? a human head or similar! Dog poo i can handle! 😀

I still cold now!! A Pecan Pie would have helped, but someone has to make sure we can pay the Carbon tax!!
I was to numb to feel any stings.
Ill stop windging now. See yawl tomorrow

Reeeeaaaally nice to be back. Thanks for the lovely hellos, hugs and kisses, for the spirited singing in the changing room and the laughter over coffee. You guys are beautiful people. Can’t wait to catch up with everyone over the next few mornings.

    Nick,
After hearing your trumpet blast during a run to curly I’m pretty sure you qualify as one of the top 500 polluters in Australia!

Loved the pecan pie. Bags lick the dish next time. My first swim today in 2 weeks, I thought the water was beautifully warm. Can’t wait to see you swimming again Linda, take care with that nasty cold, make sure Tim pampers you.

    James,
I can’t make Pecan Pie but I used to make a mean Pavlova.
    Do you eat Pavlova mate?

That’s a bit dramatic!! I don’t think I would have thought of a human head. Be sure and let us know if that’s what it turns out to be.
And yes, I think that must have been what stung me as it was unlike any other sting I’ve had previously. It didn’t last though.

BTW that second last picture isn’t what you meant is it Lesley?? I think that is a human head in a pink bag, but I think it belongs to someone.

You must have missed us Maureen if you thought that water was warm.
So happy your back, don’t get stranded in New Zealand and stay separated from us like that again !!!
