15/06/2011 – Adventure Swim

June 15, 201112

20 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

Wild and woolly conditions this morning to say the least, Gavin Skinstad, Iain McGregor, Nick TB Dowson, Simon Herfort and Terry McJannett braved the surf whilst the rest of us hardy souls braved the wrath of Half Way Beach.

On the way back we had a team bonding activity where the whole team pulled together with the sole focus of helping Jane Stevenson make it safely to land. Well, we all thought we were helping, but I’m not sure Jane saw it the same way when each of us took a different limb and
a wave came resulting in Jane getting pulled in three totally different directions. Where’s Gaetan when you need him, a video of that would have been very entertaining.

Cae Tolman just assumed we were all swimming back to Manly and only realised we’d gone to half way when he arrived at the break to face it all alone, but he did it – well done Cae 🙂

Nice photo of Michael Christie running back up the ramp after taking the temperature and
Gavin and Simon after they had made it safely back through the waves 🙂  Gosh, how dark was it this morning…

Also, a lovely photo of Wilf Deck on tour in New Zealand, there are more great photos of Wilf and others on tour which you can see by clicking here

Water Temperature 17 degrees.
Air Temperature 19.6 degrees.
Sunrise 6.58am.
Sunset 4.53pm.
High Tide: 7.40am.
Low Tide: 1.16pm.

    Blue Seventy PZ3+ Swim Skin
I’m getting one of these for Magnetic and general use. Its the swim skin all the world records were set wearing! Now banned for pool use, they can still be used in some Tris and Ocean Swims. Remaining supplies are around half price or less at $219.10(originally $499 I think). I was sent 2 to try and rather than send one back, though someone may want to get a great deal and swim faster! The brand new suit is Mens ML for someone 180-190cm and 82-90kg. Let me know, Stephen

I sent Jules’s Cabbage Tree Bay video to Mark McGrouther at the
OzMus, and he said ” Wow! That’s very impressive. I’ll forward
it on to the other fishos”.
    Well done Jules!

Tomorrow looks like a replay of today but a little bit worse. Should be fun going in at half way I would say, just as it was today.
For the cynical types who think my thermometer is wrong, have a look at Manly Hydraulics which has the offshore temperature at 20.3c!!!
So we can’t complain about the water temperature or the visibility. I’m sure we’ll find something though.
