14/06/2011 – Hello…

June 14, 20115

34 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

There were a few speed bumps out there this morning, especially the one that arrived out of nowhere as we were out the back at the point, for those of us who saw it coming it wasn’t so bad, but for those who didn’t it was a big ‘hello’…

Great photo of all the pink caps in the waves courtesy of Gaetan Guilhon, thanks Gaetan, but I’m sure you should have been swimming and not taking photos… 😉

The water’s lovely though, warm and clear with a few dusky whalers playing in the shallows.

As of yesterday we had 199 people currently on track for their winter badge. Today we cracked 200 as Wilf returned from New Zealand being the 200th individual to swim this winter ! Check it out by clicking on the image to the left of this blog post and she how you and your friends are going 🙂

Orca wetsuit fitting tonight, if you haven’t booked in but you’d like to come please let me know.

Water Temperature 19.1 degrees.
Air Temperature 17.5 degrees.
Sunrise 6.58am.
Sunset 4.53pm.
High Tide: 6.44am.

It was quite interesting this morning, everyone was waiting at the point in the “safe zone” behind the waves when this MASSIVE wave when came in and caught everyone by surprise!
There were two ladies at the back who of the group who got scared and then decided to turn back and were safely escorted to the beach by two surfers. Good on them!
PS: Jules I think I can’t swim for a few days, I hurt my back last thursday and yesterday after the long swim it was very painful. I’ll rest for 2 days and will try to get back in on thursday and take it very easy.

Thanks for the photos Gaeten. It’s nice to have proof that the wave that ‘scared’ us in was indeed massive! I hope that walking to Shelley and swimming to half-way still counts towards our winter badge Jules? And thanks to those friendly surfers too.

Of course Heidi, no hero stunts needed to qualify for the winter badge, just lots of early starts in the beautiful cool water 🙂
