59 ‘ticked’ Bold & Beautiful swimmers.
A cloudy start seems to have been the theme all week, but don’t let it put you off. The water is beautiful and clear with only a small tidy wave to get you wet and bring you back to shore. The swim across is lovely and flat and even Timberlie thought it was warm today !!
4 people did
an early lap and 6 did a double. Michael Christie did all three with no wetsuit !! Go you good thing 🙂
There is talk of a pre lap tomorrow morning at 6.20am as well as a double lap post swim, everyone is welcome of course.
Enjoy this week’s postcard from Errol Abbott, sent yesterday as he reached Copacabana en route in our Pacific Challenge !! 🙂
The postcard is initiated and compiled by James Goins. Thanks James, gosh we’re lucky having so many swimmers with amazing ideas and such great skills.
Heidi James sent a message through to say she had seen more whales off Byron than she’d ever seen in one group. Hopefully they’ll make an appearance in Manly in a couple of days. I’m sure they’ll be looking for some friends to play with for half an hour on their way through. Lets hope they know about daylight savings…
Tim’s fact of the day: “Shrimp can only swim backwards.”
Manly Life Saving Club (MLSC) has very generously offered to give two unmarked rescue boards to me. I very much appreciate this kind offer, which was unsolicited. As we all know, all Bold & Beautiful swims are informal activities in which we all participate at our own risk and as such no one provides water safety. Therefore I am unable to accept MLSC’s generous offer and instead suggest that the two boards be marked up in MLSC insignia and put into general circulation, enabling all financial and proficient lifesavers to train on them at any time. As many of the people who swim with Bold & Beautiful are financial and proficient members of MLSC they of course would be able to enjoy the benefits of training on these boards at any time along with all other such members of MLSC. I believe this is a more appropriate use of the boards, which have been purchased using donations to MLSC, and I believe it is therefore in the best interest of all of its lifesaving members, the general public using Manly Beach and all Bold & Beautiful participants.
Water Temperature 18.3 degrees.
Air Temperature 15.5 degrees.
Sunrise 6.25am.
Sunset 7.02pm.
High Tide: 6.00am.
Low Tide: 11.45pm.

I love the postcard idea James! Fabulous. Errol, you look like you’re enjoying it up the coast 🙂
Jules, great suggestion regarding the two extra rescue boards. My board paddling skills are rusty, will be making an effort to brush up on them as soon as my arms and shoulders have stopped aching after last vinyasa yoga session.

I agree Anna, I think I may get in a bit of extra paddling practice in soon too. Maybe take it easy to start with and do a few early morning trips to QC or Shelly and back. After all, what better way to stay proficient, improve board skills and stay fit with friends and fellow club members.

Are the NON-financial and proficient members of MLSC able to use the boards as well? 🙂

Love the postcard, enjoy your Pacific challenge Errol. Wonderful idea James, you are one clever dude.
Great offer from MLSC, and a great idea to put the boards into general circulation, enabling all financial & proficient lifesavers to train on them at any time. WELL DONE !!!
It’s lovely to swim on any of the Northern Beaches, see familiar B&B faces on patrol for their surf club, and know how proficient they are in the surf. BTW, do we have swimmers from all the surf clubs on the Northern Beaches? North Steyne has quite a few B&B swimmers.

To answer your question Leslie, you are not cover by insurance if you are not financial proficient club member. So you are unable to use the boards.
I need to practice my board skills as well. Will be doing an early swim at 6:20 tmr morn for those who wish, might do some practice after the early swim ..

I am freaking out though.. as they say:
To arms, citizens,
Form your battalions,
Let’s march, let’s march!
That an impure blood
Waters our furrows!

I too will do an early swim, meeting at 6.20am. For me it will be into Shelly and back and then the standard 7am swim. I am keen to do a repeat of today and do a second [third] lap after the standard swim if anyone has interest. There always seems to be a few keen types who turn up.
It should be nice conditions tomorrow, so make hay while the sun shines.

I know someone who is going to be trying to earn serious brownie points to get to the skiff club on saturday…

Michael,
Nice watching the sunrise this morning and thinking of reasons to go to shelley instead of Queensie.
See you tomorrow for the same

Great swimming at the moment and looking forward to doing some board practice as the season’s getting into full swing. While interesting gesture by Club, seem pointless having B&B boards when so many of us are proficient members and can use club boards anyway. The Club needs rescue boards and shouldn’t be sponsoring private swim groups when it’s members and sponsors funds. I’m happy to bring down my malibu soft-top if any non-members want to paddle. Maybe we could sponsor a Manly LSC board for them? As a registered charity sponsorships/donations are generally tax deductible!

Hi Jules, I left my swimmers between the fairs outside the manly Surf club. Do you know if anyone has picked them up (8th)? If not I’ll swing by the surf club and pick them up. Thanks.
