03/04/2012 – Impeccable

April 3, 201212

Over 96 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

All enjoying another picture perfect swim 🙂

What can I say… the perfect combination: warm, clear, calm seas jam packed with marine life and swimmers alike all enjoying our wonderful environment – magic !! 🙂

14 swimmers also enjoyed an early lap with another 4 continuing on after the regular swim for a double 🙂

There is a school of yellowtail around at the moment that spreads as far as the eye can see, it really is absolutely massive !!

Also a ball of the tiniest tiniest fish just off the point…

Congratulations to a new member of the Young and Restless, Jesse Noone who aged 10, enjoyed her first swim with us, both ways today !

Happy 12th birthday to Teagan Myerscough and happy … birthday to Libby Kulmar today.

Sean Parker followed the 2009 season of ocean swiming very closely with his camera in toe and as such has put together a great movie which whilst encompasing the whole season it also centres on four stories:

  • Shelley Clark, eight time 25km open water champion attempting her ninth title despite shoulder injuries;
  • Julie Isbill, a Manly resident, establishes a daily ocean swim that becomes very popular within her local community;
  • Michael Christie, aged 67 and following heart surgery, attempts the Rottnest crossing and veers off course making it difficult to complete
  • Paul Ellercamp a stalwart of the ocean swimming community faces the challenges of bureaucracy and a season beset with sharks!

The film features guest appearances from former Olympian Shane Gould, the Premier of Victoria Ted Baillieu, Cole Classic organiser Chris Cole, former Open Water Champion Shelley Taylor-Smith, former World Surfing Champion, Barton Lynch, Ocean swimming legend John Koorey, shark experts, Ron & Valerie Taylor, and colourful Northern NSW swimming celebrity, Mark “Killer” Edwards.

The one and only, very first Bold & Beautiful Bronze Squad is also featured !

The film takes us from iconic Sydney beaches, down to Portsea in Victoria, to the famous Rottness crossing in WA, ending the season at beautiful Byron Bay.

You can watch a preview of the movie here

The premier screening is in support of CanToo, the charity that raises funds for cancer research whilst teaching new swimmers to prepare themselves for ocean swimming.

    Hi, for those who didn’t see it last night, Alex has posted about swimming with Ben this weeekend as part of histraining for the English Channel. I am definitely in for some, maybe all of Big Saturday. Also good training for those going to Lake Argyle.
    Hi Team, for those who are keen there is a Freshy planned for Friday 6am. All welcome weather dependant we are hoping to do Freshy and back then Shelley and back. Also for anyone interested we are having a massive Saturday to support Ben. Plan is QC at 6am, back to main group at 7am staying with Ben the whole way. The Shelley swim will be the whole 9 yards by swimming close to the shore for a full 1.5km there and back. From there hopefully Freshy etc etc. Plan to do 12km+ but with intervals for those who wish to join for some or all. I would like to have a peleton and have everyone stick together to support Ben’s training. My mobile is 0414373016. SMS me if you are in.

    If anyone is looking for some warm mileage in June and a good cause to support Multiple Sclerosis Society has their annual 24 hrs swim on 23rd June at Sydney Olympic Park. Its a big event- Iain Mc Gregor did his fair share of fund raising last year and used it to sort out some nutrition planning for his Channel swim. It will be my 5th MS24hr swim- I like to take the grave yard shift while the kiddies go out clubbing for the night. http://www.megaswim.com
