I got drenched today before I even got into the water, the surf was big and rough, it was raining and the wind was strong enough to turn some people off using an umbrella. I’m told the early swimmers headed for the harbour but Rusty gave everyone an ok report from halfway and back. Greg Franks was strong enough to do the double from Manly beach and survive!
Everyone was huddled under the shelter waiting to decide what to do and what not to do.
Jess turned up today to swim for the first time, wow!
So did Enid, love Lesley and her photobombs.
Then Lyndall arrived and everyone sang happy birthday! Hope you have a lovely day Lyndall.
Some of us went to the point to suss it out and decided either go to halfway or just do breakfast instead.
I chose to enter at Shelley with only a few people, the rest braved the stairs at halfway and the seaweed:
Jo and Elaine were frolicking about in the bay while I bounced around looking for fish:
On return to Manly the sun came out briefly, such a rare occurence this week and I”m told for the next week, yay!
Everyone was getting excited about the promotion of the Skinny swim coming up this Sunday, Layne Beachley gathered some swimmers together to join her for the Today show. I was having breakfast by this stage at Bluewater.
there are still some spots if you’re keen, don’t have the link sorry but there are swimmers going at different times.
Two of my favourite people to stop and chat to Sophie and Nick, they have a natural happiness and genuine interest in others. Such a treat-
There’s still some swim lessons coming up for anyone interested in improving their technique:
3. Breath Easy- Saturday 6 May 9-10am
One of the most common issues we here from swimmers is around breathing. But, there are some key elements to your body alignment, position, and breath management that need to be in place before you even think about turning your head towards the air. Join us for an hour in the water where we focus purely on the essentials skills for breathing with more ease, and flow.
4. Open Water Specifics – Saturday 8 July 9-10am
This is a high energy session for the end of our series! Adapting your stroke for open water is essential if you want to swim in the ocean, or compete in swimming events. Learn some key changes that need to be in place, how to sight, how to enter and exit the water, buoy turns, and how to conserve energy in the swim by utilising those around you!
What to bring: swim suit, cap, goggles, wetsuit, water and money for a hot cuppa afterwards!
Cost = $25 per workshop or book in for all 4 workshops in the series for $79
Limited to just 10 people so please book in early to avoid disappointment.
Please email Sarah Anne directly to book on info@pacificjules.com.au or call 0420 923 067 for more info.
This Saturday: I am running a cake stall outside the surf club to help these kids in The Gambia, West Africa, with basic supplies for their kindy education. Most families are trying to survive on $1.00 a day. You can help me to help them by making a slice, cup cakes, buying baked goods or a small donation. All money raised goes directly to the kindy. Ian and I visited the Kindy last year and were touched by their need for basic supplies and their enthusiasm for schooling.

Stats: 80 swimmers, 3 newbies, temp-23.1-still yummy 🙂

Great blog Edwina, even though it looked pretty horrendous the half way swim was pretty good.

Actually, it was really lovely in the water between Shelly and the Point (or as close as one could get) – never, ever regret a swim and the brekkie tastes so much better:)
Thx for all your lovely blogs, Ed, and have a great trip! x
