This morning we held a brief memorial to commemorate Greg McDonough, fellow swimmer and friend to many, preceding the 7am swim. Go in peace, Greg.
The busy old fool greeted a cloudless sky so he got him some special effects to enhance the experience
Ski paddlers (with whom we mostly coexist quite amicably – more on this later) entering the water
Air and water temps are on an upward trajectory
A robust swell greeted us this morning with most of us respectfully entering the water via the beach
Hi Errol
Glamorous mermaids cavorting in the Bay – wow!
Not much visibility underneath but this little guy…
A brief aside – mostly we manage to share the waves quite amicably with board and ski paddlers and other swimmers but there are always some with a strange sense of entitlement. I encountered one (quite incompetent) ski paddler this morning who was quite affronted by the swimmers blocking HER way back to shore. I feel a bit bad about some of the words I used in my encounter with her (not really).
The way back to shore was a bit rippy but we made it.
Here’s Rainer celebrating another fabulous swim
Sitting in the sun n chillin’
This extremely photogenic gentleman next to me is Cr David Walton (Curl Curl ward), a regular B&B swimmer. He and Vincent de Luca are the ONLY Councillors who wrote to Council administration and called them into account over the surreptitious changes to the timings and costings in the Coles car park which caught many swimmers out. One of the justifications Council used for the changes was that it was unfair on permit holders. Thing is the permit holders use the other car parks, not the Coles one – Council admin was trying to pull a swifty. (the other justifications were total garbage as we well know.)
Thanks for calling it out David, this was what made Council admin back down. It’s great to know who our friends are on Council.
Today’s musical offering comes to you from the B52s
Stats:
Total swimmers: about 140
Monthly Dinner – 14th August 2018 – Guest Speaker
The next B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 14th August at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. Our guest speaker on the night will be B&B swimmer, Brendan Maher. Brendan, who describes himself as a very average swimmer, managed to overcome a chronic shoulder injury and swim the English Channel in July 2017. He will speak of his motivation, training for the swim, and what it’s like for the average swimmer to attempt a marathon swim. This talk will be an inspiration to all of us who count ourselves in the ‘B Team’ (or even the Zeds!).
The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential: To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please book HERE.

Your very pretty pictures belied what a bloody tough swim that was! Crikey, hard work.
Excellent work on the whole car park imbroglio. Never get in the way of a cranky middle aged woman.
Happy birthday Rainer, thanks for the delicious cake Mary.

Beautiful photos of a great morning and bumpy swim. Thank you Joe for your one armed plaing of The Last Post. Many swimmers have remarked how Greg McDonaugh was one of the first people they met at the swim, always so friendly, happy and generous. Well done Anne and Dave on car park result!
