I must confess I had mixed emotions about the swim today. Is it too cold to swim? Should I be a WWWW, that is, Winter Wimp With Wetsuit? (Ian we need a badge for this). I packed my wetsuit but didn’t wear it. How about a double? What about just going for coffee at Hakans? And I thought, ‘I wish I could be certain all the time and stop being so wishy washy’. Wishy washy about swimming hah hah… about a lot of things. And then I mentioned mixed emotions to the swimmers this morning and it turns out a lot of us have mixed emotions about a bunch of things.
So I’m comforted that new research finds that mixed emotions contribute to our well-being, and it suggests that the more you experience mixed feelings, the greater your need to get a sense of purpose and meaning in your life. It seems mixed emotions are a sign we have conflicting goals (I get that), and that we need to recall our meaning and go after it. All in like a 7am swim. Seems a bit deep? But I reckon the deep water is more interesting than the shallows, there’s more sea life there too. Anyway they’ve also found you are happier when you have a sense of purpose. For the Americans that’s a purpose like a direction not a porpoise like a fish.
This morning was perfect for mixed emotions, the water was 20.1 but the air cool and the sky grey. How we rug up signals the cool coming on, also a good excuse for a hug…
And sometimes the mixed emotions are more obvious…
But it’s hard to resist diving into a scene like this…
And catching up with mates at Shelley…
And it doesn’t matter how you feel before the swim, it always feels better afterwards…
Thanks for being a great gang to hang out with,
Pete

Shaun used to purport to have a sense for porpoises. Purely for the purpose of publicity. I suppose.
Great blog Pete. No need for a wettie yet!

The ‘great hanging out gang’ makes it so much easier to just get down there and into the sea and a few minutes later, paradise!
So glad you’re part of the gang and give us your interesting blogs, Pete! x

Great Blog, did Roger tell you which Game Of Thrones character he is auditioning for ?
He looks like he has just heard that burning at the stake is still the penalty for stealing bread.

You are the MixMaster, Sunbeam.
The readers don’t know how sensitively-yet-artfully you stripped Wina’s blog from her very fingers …

Another inspirational blog mate. Good to get all that clarified. Are you charging for this? No need for wetsuits at any time of the year! No mixed emotions there.

No, but his thesis on “The Avalanche of Abundance” is on sale. Did I get the title right, Pete? Skye will remember our deep discussion on its contents:) xx

Gosh! Do I comment, or just keep thoughts to myself. . .? But it is a splendid blog that can’t pass without saying so.
Well done Pete. I’m going to be dithering for the rest of the day 🙂

Well I didn’t have mixed emotions when I saw Ros ‘s Pink Pussy Cap. I gave it the thumbs up! But I couldn’t decided whether I needed a pattern to knit it….and as ….I do. If you read this Ros I’ll be back next Tuesday. Beautiful swim today including a cormorant beneath the waves ….always glad when mixed emotions lose and I do get out of bed.
