Thursday 27 July: Just listening to the inner drummer

July 27, 201716

The beat was more obvious this morning, but it’s there everyday.  The inner beat you tune into that keeps your life in rhythm, and for us it includes an ocean swim. It’s why we feel out of rhythm when we don’t get a dose of the ocean. It’s part of what gives our lives meaning. Positive psychology tells us that finding meaning is fundamental to overall well being. But meaning isn’t one big thing we need to spend our lives searching for. We draw meaning from lots of sources that might be right there – family, work, friendships, spirituality and activities like ocean swimming. It’s a personal choice because only you know how things make you feel, only you can hear your drummer. It’s also why mindfulness works – just tuning everything else out but the beat of your breath.

Then when you meet people listening to the same beat, you get a Bold and Beautiful swim group. Here’s some of the beats from this morning’s crew.

Two newbies who heard the beat from a long way away…Leisha from London then Freya from Darwin

When you think of why to come down for a swim JK is the answer a lot of swimmers hear. We all know he is one of the people that make the group work so well in and out of the water. Today he celebrated 2000k. Well done John, and thanks from the gang. Here’s John drumming with the other members of the B&B Board…

May your drummer beat on…

B&B MONTHLY DINNER – GUEST SPEAKER

The next B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 8th August at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. The guest speaker on the night will be travel agent Brett Goulston, whose talk is entitled “20 places you should visit even though you may never have heard about them and probably can’t pronounce them”

Brett is co-owner of Blue Dot Travel (with two of our B&B swimmers, Brod Brennan & Joanne Coughlan). All three are travel tragics who have travelled to most of the corners of the globe and are passionate travellers, swimmers and walkers.

Blue Dot Travel is a boutique travel business which has generously signed on as a B&B sponsor. The business focuses on mature/young at heart travellers who are looking for unique experiences (think Madagascar, Kamchatka, Nagaland, Ethiopia, Caucuses, Iceland, etc). To celebrate the occasion they will be giving away 5 lucky door prizes on the night as well as offering Bold & Beautiful members a $250 discount off any trip they book in the next 60 days.

The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential:  To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please book HERE.

Oh no I missed JK’s 2000km! I thought he was going to slip under the radar. Did he get an arch and a fanfare? Great words Pete. I’m feeling a bit lethargic because I haven’t had my vitamin sea. Congrats JK!

Ah pete i do like the way you work a theme; some would say ‘to death’ but i am not one of those…nothing wrong with a light flogging (preferably while rolling a Bank durry). Anyway it’s all true. And JK deserves vaults, pinnacles, pyramids and smoking pyres of incense…no simple arch. Excuse the rhetorical excesses but I’ve been stuck in a car all day…

There are countless air drummers – more than air guitarists …
