Have you ever had that sense when time disappears, you feel great for no good reason and get so involved in an activity that you lose all sense of yourself? Like you could do anything in that state? It’s called Flow and it happens when you are so immersed in an activity that is just above your skill level so then it requires all your effort to make it happen. It means you step up into the challenge. Too little challenge and you’re bored, too much and you’re anxious. Positive psychologists have found that to be truly flourishing you want to get into flow playing to your strengths and making a contribution to something bigger than you. It’s when we feel at our best – feeling good comes from doing well.
Of course you can get into flow swimming when the conditions are right for you, and that’s one reason the challenge of a B&B swim is so rewarding. We had plenty of people stepping up to the challenge this morning.
Thank you to all my B&B mates for being a great gang to step up with.
See you in the water.
