Round The Head Super Swim Tomorrow

January 28, 201116

So far only one boat committed that can take 4 people should it need to.

There are paddlers keen which will be a huge support and but of course they won't be able to get people out of the water and onto their craft for the duration of the swim should the need arise.

The conditions look favourable for a Harbour to Ocean route if we did proceed.

What's the general consensus in proceeding tomorrow, do we:

  • postpone for say two weeks giving more time to secure more boats ?
  • go ahead ?

I think if there’s more than, say, 8 swimmers we should wait until we have a second boat. I’m up for a 6k if we have to postpone.

    Yeah I’m still keen.
I thought the boat was just there to evac. any swimmers who may fall ill during the swim.
    Perfect conditions forecast.
    Double-check the conditions tomorrow.
If there’s no swell we can swim close in and scramble onto the rocks
If the consensus is still too risky tomorrow,
maybe a 6k swim Manly Cove to North Head and back with paddlers only

    I AM IN!
I haven’t got a second boat Jules but do have a friend coming on a stand up paddle board.
If we need to jump out of the water the lack of surf would seem to be conducive to a rock scramble.

Hi guys, daughter sick am out. Very disapointed. I have an experienced paddler (for next time) with canoe thingi I have used for 4 Bridge to Beach swim. Good floatation and could support a few people who were holding on if in trouble (not carry). Sorry!

I am reasonably keen but think it might be a bit difficult as the Australia day fiasco has taken everyone’s time for organisation. I think everyone has got a little hyped about it all, as I doubt it is any more of a worry than going to Curl Curl.
My suggestion would be to meet at 7am as usual and if conditions are as excellent as they appear they will be, we can walk over to little Manly and do it. If not so good we can just do the normal swim and 6k.

I still think it would be a lot safer to have enough boats in case of emergency. I have an important strata meeting at 9:30 that I need to attend so probably I cannot join as we will need 3 hours I guess. Nevertheless, I still think we should play the safety card just to be extra cautious.

Why don’t we meet at 7 at the usual place and see how many want to do it, and take it from there???

I agree, meet at usual place at 7am and play it by ear. That will mean no boat though…
If postponed how about we aim for 12th Feb ?? How’s all the paddlers and boat people for 12th Feb ??
