You are invited to our Fiona’s Art Exhibition this weekend:
Fiona’s underwater meditation
“I think of paintings and colours while I swim. I try and sort my life out. I look at the way things flow this way and that…With the other swimmers I’m often focused on the particular experience of swimming – rotating my body and breathing. You can get very focused on swimming fast…You really have to concentrate on being like a fish. Or like a surfboard in some instances. You focus on being in a streamlined form to create the speed that will push your bulk along in aerodynamic way. So I do think about my body – about my spine, my chin tucked down, really being streamlined as I pull myself along.
That’s a brilliant way of meditating because everything you’ve been faffing around thinking about …really goes out the window – because I’ve got to think about swimming as fast as I can and the sound of my breath and every other little thing like that.”

Staying safe
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Nice blog Simon and photos to accompany. Great that you manage to catch all the different times of the swim! The morning darkness is creeping inexorably closer to 6.30!

What a gorgeous blog Simon and great photos. Cute photo of Kirsty taking her shorts off! Looking forward to Fi’s exhibition. We raised $740 yesterday at the Clothes Swap fundraiser and another $900 at cake stall on Saturday. Thanks folks. That money will go a long way in Nepal.

Haha…a repeat showing every Monday…although Andy appears indifferent, so perhaps not as exciting as one might think…brightly coloured cossies seem to be the norm these days.
