Friday 29 April 2016. A few rogue waves

April 29, 20169

Here is a rare shot from inside the womens change rooms. I learned from Bianca and Midge that there were rogue waves. Good to know. Also Bianca is going to Byron Bay for an ocean swim. Good luck.

I love going in ocean swims as there is an opportunity to swim in a new beach with water safety nearby. Very enjoyable. Check out the oceanswims.com website for swims coming up.

I love the light at this time of year and the long shadows.

Phew. I go through the waves. Woo-hoo and yay. I could not have faced that 2 years ago at all.

At Shell Beach. To adapt Garrison Keillor’s observations about the good folk of Lake Woebegone, I observe that ocean swimmers are all above average in looks and conversation. If you speak to other people, they are not endlessly interested in conditions and swim technique. So limited. I can speak for hours about my patient forearms. Here are some of the good looking ocean swimmers I found at Shelly

The A team visited the Eastern suburbs of Shelly

Sam made it to Shelly more easily than me!

Jen (rash vest) and James (on the right) are newbies in amongst the veterans

These floating devices make the swimmer easier to see.

The lovely people of the main part of Shelly, near the Let’s Go. My favourite swimming companion, Gayle, Leslie, Sarah (who used to swim at my speed – what happened?) and the delightful Rainer, well known dad of Eva

What!? A blog tart in red speedos

John and John – who is relatively new. He found BB by google

Rick and Lisa enjoying the scenic route

Rick and Lisa with Sylvia. Half way had no sand and lots of rocks.

What I have been reading: a very stressful week so I have been reading a PD James, The Black Tower, like ice cream for reading enjoyment. We have also been watching season 3 of The Bridge on dvd. I like it so far.

This weekend there is a film festival on cross country skiiing called Back Country which we will go see – at that well known snow spot, Kirribilli.

Exciting news – the Newcastle Theatre Company is doing a play of Robert Gott’s book, Good Murder. It is in in June. Should be great.  According to Radio national, with the gentrification of Surry Hills and Glebe, young artistes are popping up in new places and Newcastle has lots to offer.

‘Nipples Ahoy!’ comes to mind for Martin’s caption.
Liked the careful placement of Fog Blob on many of the On-Water shots Elizabeth. Splendid work as usual.

Some great shots of great swimmers Elizabeth!
As for reading, I’m just about to start Bill Bryson’s ‘A Walk in the Woods’.
Oh, and I’m looking forward to seeing the famous Jeff Parsons starring in ‘Everything in the Garden’ tonight!

That first shot is nothing like what I normally see in those changing rooms!
..and as for that the Martin-Shadow photo – It is priceless! great use of natural resources to create the best photo on the blog this year!
I expect it will make it into one of Roger’s books.

An excellent book. If you read his book Notes from a Small Island and enjyed it (I did a lot) you should also read The Road to Little Dribbling. It is funny
and shows a real affection for Britain

People were still talking about your blog today (Sunday). There is so much in it to savour and enjoy. I had missed the bit about us all being above average in looks and conversation. Isn’t it wonderful! I love reading about what your are reading. thanks Elizabeth. Lyndall xx
