Extremely rare “Pink-capped Clown Fish” sighted!

January 22, 20125

70 B&B swimmers, “IZZY where were you?  asks Michael!

We swam in the harbour today as the Manly Carnival is still on and there are plenty of surf boats and IRBs on the beach side which makes the swim hazardous.

Just like yesterday in the harbour, perfect conditions, flat, warm, amazing sky and water colors and this time sunny the whole way. No oyster or sea urchin casualties reported today 🙂

A couple of swimmers were lucky enough to see a ‘pink-capped clown fish’ (also known as Anemonefish, sub-family of the Woodyamphiprioninae) and thankfully we managed to capture a picture of it.

The fish has been reported to be very curious and to circle around female swimmers but despite its scarry behavior it is harmless:

Tim’s fact of the day:
Clownfish are all born as males! When they are adults, the largest and the most dominant fish of the group will undergo a sex change, and become a female.
(Can’t wait to see this happening to the above one we saw this morning!!! :-))))

7:00, all in for a great swim!

View from the Manly Sail School pontoon, the best seat in town to get close to the swimmers!

View from my house (I wish!). Sunny in Manly but very dark on the city.

Frangipanis, B&B swimmers, kayak, sunshine, emerald water… isn’t life in Manly beautiful?!

On the way back with Manly ferry in the background:

James, good luck today in the Warriewood to Mona Vale ocean swim! Good luck as well to all the B&Bs who are participating in the 1.6km race!

Quite dramatic colors with the dark sky and the gorgeous emerald water!

Well done Wilf!

I thought that Clown Fish had already undergone a sex change
Surely Stephen is the husband right?
