05/12/2011 – Morning Pleasures

05/12/201110

51 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

10 people braved the chilly water for a very pleasant, calm Bolderdash and were rewarded by a beautiful Wobbegong playing in the weed just off the point.  Gaetan Guilhon may have a better photo and hopefully a good video for us later this arvo 🙂

Thanks to Nick TB we have a nice photo of some of the ‘dasher’s’ up at Queensie and Kelly Johnson surrounded by this morning’s early rays on the way back.

The 7am swimmers also got rewarded by a lovely big Eagle Ray who very kindly glided by, slowly enough for a photo, just off the point.  Plus a gorgeous big rainbow to greet everyone back to Manly Beach 🙂

Now… will somebody please turn that damn cold tap off – it’s summer you know !

Tim’s fact of the day: “A baby beluga whale is called a ‘piddlin’.”

Stephen Coulter has sent us through the results of B&B swimmers who he recognised in the Bondi to Bronte ocean swim yesterday, I’m sure there were more, so apologies if you have been missed off.

Apparently it was a very chilly and challenging swim with a roaring cold southerly to fight against the whole way.

It seems that Brendan Maher, James Goins and two friends got the best of the day in their early swim from Bronte to Bondi.  James will put up a little video for us soon.

Nicola Davidson 42:32
Denise Elder 48:31
James Goins 48:48
Miles Tollan 49.58
Bruce Baird 50:18
Stephen Coulter 50:29
Leonie Tonner 54:23
Brendan Maher 57:01

There are also more great photos of Ragnill’s surprise farewell party swim in Ivy’s pool in Sydney.  One below and a couple more on the B&B on tour page

Air Temperature 15.5 degrees.
Sunrise 5.37am.
Sunset 7.54pm.
Low Tide: 11.41am.

It seems unbelieveable, and I was there!
I was 10 minutes faster in the lazy warm up swim than i was swimming back into the southerly gale during the race.
I have jsut about thawed out and am up for an unofficial BD tomorrow if anyone’s interested.

Great video Gaetan; love the wobbegong.
I can’t ever remember it not being choppy at Queensie now; seems like its always been that way!

Excellent video as usual Gaetan! Really captured the way the Wobbe was hiding himself in the weed.
    What a beautiful looking shark.
