01/06/2012 – First Swim of Winter

01/06/201221

Over 105 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

First day of winter swimming today and it certainly got the thumbs up !!

In fact it was bloody lovely 🙂  With a fantastic turnout of swimmers all keen to get their first qualifying winter swim under their cossies.

Lots of swimmers are still enjoying a couple of extra laps with 7 swimming the pre-dawn lap at 6.30 and 3 continuing on afterwards.

The water temperature kindly rose another 0.1 of a degree today too, every little bit helps !

Don’t forget every 7am swim to Shelly and back, between now and 31st August, counts towards your 2012 ‘Cold & Beautiful’ winter badge as long as you remember to tick.

For those of you that haven’t swum through winter before it’s seriously the best time of year, with usually fantastic water clarity, no blue bottles and bonus visits from dolphins and if we’re very lucky Mr Whale 🙂

As you know it was sadly Liz’s last swim with us today as she heads back to Ireland tomorrow 🙁  But it wasn’t all sad as with a little help from her friends she did perform Riverdance for us at Shelly Beach this morning… !!  If you missed it all is not lost, you can watch a clip of it here 🙂

Then for the down hill swim back to Manly for those hot water bottles and a nice hot cuppa coffee.

From time to time some of our swimmers have needed a plumber and we haven’t had one with in B&B… But, guess what we discovered this morning, our very own B&B plumber, Ted de Jager 🙂

Plus a bonus photo courtesy of James, taken early this morning of Jenny and Vicki pounding up and down the sand before the swim !!

Water Temperature 19.2
Air Temperature 12.0
Sunrise 6.52am
Sunset 4.54pm
Low Tide: 10.58am
High Tide: 5.30pm

Thank you all, I will miss B&B so much 😉 but I will be back for sure….I had an incredible experience this afternoon, I was surfing off bower and a whale breached about 100m away from me, and then again and again before it continued up the coast – Breath-taking stuff! what a fantastic going away pressie Manly! 😉
