278 B&B Swimmers rolled up this morning. You can tell it’s going to be another hot one right here in beautiful Manly by the hazy air that hung all over the southern end of the beach where we get together every morning at 7am.
31 thought that today would be the perfect day to start their B&B careers.
Don’t want to show off, but this is what you missed out on if you weren’t here 🙂

Saturday always has that buzz about it –

Here’s Errol… waiting for Channel 7…

…and then out of nowhere…. a vision! Some sort of angel perhaps?? Who was she ….and more importantly… where had she (just) come from?? Possibly the beginning of another B&B legend born in the Hazy Days of Summer?

7am… time to get down to business….

The king summer tides are still around and it’s a great way to wake up and clear the head.. especially if you’ve been out all night and come straight to swimming heheheh….

B&B swimmers are always good to have around in an argument cos we get to the point quickly….

Visibility was pretty good under the water… but I bought a new camera and was struggling with the menus this morning .. so here’s the obligatory underwater shot..

Today’s blog tart is John Bond… he’s all over it…

Jules said something that sounded like “go” ….

Next thing you know… here we are…. at Shelly… feeling less hazy on the inside 🙂

(Emily Howard voice) “Definitely two ladies”

A little bit of a rest….

Again… Jules said something like “Go”

It was a great swim back this morning. There have been hardly any flat days in the last month or two so we’ve all had time to get to enjoy the bumps and rolls… you can hear everyone chatting about it when you get out…

oh… here’s that mystery woman again…. I asked her where she was going .. and she said said was “The Boat Shed”

The rest of us went straight to Bluewater Cafe for the B&B special breakfast (the one we have every morning) …….to try and work out who she was and how she got here….

Just before you go….
7 People did the 6k in the harbour
18 People went on to do the 10k
Robin, Michael and Brendan actually continued on to do a 15k swim – Brendan actually did the whole thing kick only and by now should have the best bloke legs in Manly (you would think?….ladies…comments?)
The water was a gorgeous 22.9c
The sun rose at 5:57 and will set at 8:09
The Boat Shed opens at 8pm and closes at 2pm (but don’t go before 11 cos you’ll look a bit desperate)
Bluewater Cafe is the best place to have breakfast after you swim with us.
Dont forget that one of our lovely swimmers and his wife, Jonny and Di Schaffer have very kindly offered to host a farewell picnic for Julie and Michael from 5pm on Sunday 13th January in Clontarf.
It will be nice and relaxed so that everyone can enjoy themselves, so it would be great if people can bring their own ‘picnic’ and drinks OR a plate of finger food to share and drinks (including any utensils they may need incl glasses / beakers etc…) for themselves.
People can arrive anytime from 5pm, in time to watch the sun go down over our beautiful Sydney Harbour.
Everyone is most welcome, but to help give us an idea of numbers please could everyone RSVP (to another lovely swimmer) Cate Brockbank at catejb33@yahoo.com.au with their estimated time of arrival and in return Cate will reply with the address 🙂 You can also ask for details at the 7am swim as someone will know the address.
Also, next Friday is a very special day. It’s Julie’s and Michael’s last swim with us before they hit the road to Western Australia. It also happens to be Julie’s 24th birthday! Let’s all turn up and sing Happy Birthday at Shelly Beach for her as loud as we can.

I wasn’t the last to leave The Boatshed of our swimmer friends I’ll have you know, and was lucky enough to stay at Greg’s 5 Star Backpackers rather than ‘Ethel’ the kombi!
Love your photos Nick but were your sunrise photos taken from your bed or outside the Surf Club at 5.40 am? I have to leave Avalon at 5.05am to take those shots! Some great water photos especially the one through the waves to The Point.
Well done to all the 6 and 10 kmer swimmers. Jules Mackin did it and 3 years ago couldn’t swim atall and Brendan did it kick only! You guys are inspirational! (And I’m back to bed 🙂

Fab blog and sunrise to get back quickly for:-)
…and when I return in Feb, Nick, you can join me and the Super Slowies for a 10K and do the blog at the same time. You’ll be able to float along on your back taking pics (as Simon once did on a B’dash) and write up (and breakfast) at any of the many rest spots as you wait for us:-))

I really want to do this! Did the 1km Cole Classic last year and signed up again this year for the same.

Fab blog Nick.. great photos!
And, most importantly, good eye for a story, catching party girl LL out in last night’s party girl dress!
Was good to be back. Fun waves, and just enough chop to keep you on your toes.
Have to give a big shout-out to Simon, Ian, John, and everyone doing the admin work in the background these days. I gave Simon a hand with the attendance sheets today and was stunned by the amount of work that’s involved to capture daily data / keep the PC going!
And while the bloggers (I love you all!) get a lot of visibility, those little elves that are looking after backend admin are virtually invisible. Big thank you guys!! (Lesbutt – you and I are back up team tomorrow!)
Well done on the 6k / 10k swimmers today!

What a morning!!
I figure that Robin and Brendon and myself ended up doing 16.5km. Not a bad morning. The harbour was definitely the best pick.
Special congratulations should go to Brenton C,Jules, Sam Evans and Inez for their first 10k swim! Particularly as Jules could not swim two years ago.
Also special mention to Shaun, who did most of the swim on his own![slept in]. Brendon M, no one has snorkelled nearly 17km before and probably never will again.
Finally Robin and myself and Brendon who acheived that much sought after 16KM BADGE!! Yay!! as Annie would say.

Lovely swim this morning. Welcome to the new swimmers, especially Pete.
Congratulations distance swimmers.
I forgot to tick this morning for Annette and I. I love the Pacific Challenge, am trying to make Coffs Harbour for my sister’s birthday. Any chance of a belated tick????

Congratulations also to Michael C for passing his 1000km mark at B and B. He is now on 1005.5, although it should really be higher than that by another 6.5 km, as he swam 16km today. Your number one spot is safe for a good while, just look out for 007 (you know he is impossible to kill)

Great blog Nick. Wonderful photos and love the story line, especially the bit about ‘the point’ 🙂
Fantastic effort to all the distance swimmers this morning. 6 of the 7 6kers did their journey swim on the ocean side led by Richard G.
Well done all, especially all the first timers, the 16.5km distance daemons and a big wow to Kick A*#! Brendan !!
Jules M has only ever swaum one Bolderdash, one 6km and now a week later a 10km. What do you reckon… Rottnest next ?? It’s 6 weeks away, so should fit in fine with the rate Jules M is progressing !
What a superb bunch, well done all.
Great, fun video Stephen.
